Absolutely loved this book. The author combines vampires, witches and daemons and historical fiction, plus a bit of romance. Well-written and a great escape!

Loved the movie, but just can't get into the book. Not sure if the its the book or me. I will try it again later. Between the book and the movie, it did encourage me to pick up Julia Childs Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
This was an awesome book!
When I read this book, I thought that it was kinda pointless, but then you get into it and you find that there are a lot of hidden meanings and morals and stuff, kinda like The Giver by Lois Lowry. I actually thought that some of the stuff was kinda cool, but I didn't learn anything. That's what I get for reading classic literature, I guess.
This book is so important to me on so many levels. For starters, this novel reminds me of my evolving taste in literature. My first encounter with Winterson was, as you may guess, not a good one. I couldn't quite get past the first few pages. I found her prose to be too "magical," too quirky, too much! I wrote off this novel as fanciful drivel. I picked up the book again, years later, thinking that I might give it another try. Of course, I soon fell in love with Winterson's novel. This book will remain a constant reminder that patience is a good thing, particularly when it comes to reading!

I am loving it so far, but I am confused about many things. Like what exactly are Inkies? What is that shine? How this addiction differs from all others? How did I/S appeared in this world (got some explanation very late in the story), but still want more (maybe waits ahead). Why are they called like that, how did the world end up this way and what is this way actually? I'm just not used to still be so confused so late in the story about the world in the story.

Cute book that would be good for 3rd and 4th grade about how to write a Thank You note. The ending is very sweet.

Well, criated by a genius portuguese communist writer, José Saramago, Blindness is a book with a lot of reflective symbols, able to insert the reader in the white blind, such as coined by writer. A great book! A terrible film...

This book is about snap judgments - when they're good and when they're not. The stories are very interesting and entertaining... some cases eye openers.

Stone the builder who erects a house that falls on its occupants. Sever the hands of the criminal who pilfers livestock or grain or another's garment. Whip the child who defies an elder. For such is the law and the law must be obeyed. For generations, these ironclad rules had governed the people. Nobody questioned whether it was right to humiliate a child or execute a murderer. An eye for an eye was the way of the world. But was there another way? When an antiquarian book is discovered in the disheveled study of an old Vermont farmhouse, the house's new owner has the volume translated. The result is The Book of the Shepherd, a timeless story full of life lessons for us all. Set in a mythical time, in an unnamed land, The Book of the Shepherd tells the tale of a shepherd, Joshua, who is troubled by the harsh code of "an eye for an eye" that governs his world. Called by a dream, the shepherd sets off on a journey to find "the new way." Accompanied by Elizabeth, a former slave who is kind and generous, and David, a boy who must learn to walk in new shoes, the shepherd knows that "an age of miracles" will come when the new way is found. But the journey is not without incident. En route to a cave near the Great Inland Sea, the travelers meet a cast of extraordinary characters, including the Storyteller, the Apothecary, the Blind Man, and the Stranger. Each imparts an important lesson that pushes the travelers toward their destiny. At the cave, Joshua must see if he can bring forth secrets long buried. But he, Elizabeth, and David will also discover that sometimes what we have been searching for has been inside us all along.
