Maybe I'm dumb, but I just didn't get it. King's hallmark writing style makes this book enjoyable; however, this was one of the few books that I read cover-to-cover and still didn't really know what was going on.

This wonderful modern day version of the Beauty and the Beast classic tale was phenomenal. Kyle Kingsbury is a self-absorbed, rich kid who's dad is the anchor on the news in NYC. A girl named Kendra right at the start of the book criticizes the school for voting for dance royalty based on physical appearance and wealth alone. When Kyle tricks Kendra into showing up at the dance thinking he's her date, she turns out to the be witch in the classic tale, transforming him into the Beast. Kyle moves places and ends up in the care of a blind tutor (Will) and the house maid (Magda). When a drug-crazed man breaks into his roses in his greenhouse, he ends up making a pact with the man to bring his daughter. The daughter of course ends up being our Beauty, and the tale continues on (I won't share so as not to spoil any differences between this version & the Disney version most of us know). The writing is easy to read, and perfect for middle-school to young-adult to adult. Everyone loves a fairy tale, but this is a great story about setting those you love free and what true beauty is.

The writing and the story are very interesting and its a short read. I love this author so I really wanted to read everything from her. It is about a woman and a man reflecting on their past relationship from the throes of love to the present all while the woman is performing fellatio on the man.... interesting no? not smutty I swear!
