Wondering what is happening in the world and why? The WAKING GOD TRILOGY just may have some answers. This is the second book and many have said it is even more fast paced and eye-opening than the first!

I have already read this book. I love how it is futuristic. i think it has a cool twist how Lev was so ready to go to his tithing and by the end of the book he is like a whole different person.

I bought it at a rummage sale a few years back. I thought it may be outdated, since it was an older book, but I thought it was still pretty accurate in describing men and women in relationships.
It's even more hilarious to hear David read it on the audio version
This book was pretty good, it's not the best but it is totally something you wanna read when it's a rainy day.
had me laughing out loud at certain parts. Funny and sweet. :)
I was a little dissapointed with this book. I went into it with high expectations that were not met. The plot of the story was great, but the characters were static and boring. The setting was well developed (you got a pretty good feel for Alex's bording school), but the writing was only mediocre. The story felt rushed and Alex's recovery from a fairly traumatic event seemed even more hurried. I also had mixed emotions about the Mockingbirds- the idea of a student run accountability system was great, but the application was a bit harsh; the Mockingbirds bullied kids into submission before they were even found guilty. Again, the idea behind this book is fantastic, but the writing doesn't take it very far.

Dorothy and John write about wine in an easily accessible way. They teach you to enjoy and explore, and are never snooty or uptight. I received this book as a (re)gift in 2003 and it totally changed how I drink wine - it led me to try new things, write down what I experience, and find out what I like and dislike.
I'm just not sure who the target audience was for this one. Of course, you don't see many books tagged philosophy/self-help and perhaps there is a reason. Anyone has delved into philosophy at even a Wikipedia level would find this slender volume to be mind-numbingly absent of any substance. Generally, devotional books are targeted towards the christian crowd, and this book makes a point that that isn't their specific audience. Perhaps I was expecting more, but one would expect a volume promising ancient wisdom from philosophers to be thought provoking and I did not find it to be interesting enough for bathroom reading.
As Tim O'Brien, a native of Worthington, was in my backyard last Saturday, I felt guilty for not having ever read any of his books so picked up the one we happened to have in our own collection--"In the Lake of the Woods." I could hardly put it down, finding the tale of John Wade and his wife, Kathy, quite engrossing--and surprisingly timely, given its terse assessment of all things political and the way people manipulate the truths (or perceptions?) of their own lives to work to their advantage--although when deceptions unravel or are exposed, one's life can unravel completely, as well. Thoughts of John Kerry and his "swift-boating," John Grundseth, Norm Coleman/Al Franken, John McCain and more came to mind. The mystery was compelling, the writing strategies intriguing, and I found myself wishing I had read this BEFORE Tim O'Brien was in my yard!!!
