So basically most of the book blogs I follow were reading this, and yeah, it's really entertaining. It seems too frothy to call 'a good book,' but it probably was. I really like Libba Bray's tone. I can't imagine her writing in another style, which is at least one reason I want to check out her Victorian trilogy. I actually liked her the most when reading the acknowledgements and she says to her husband "It's sweet that after so many years of close partnership, you still have the capacity to be surprised and frightened by the things I say, dear." So yeah, I'd recommend it if you want something light and really fun. And despite its general tone, it DOES have good things to say to teen girls *cough*unlikeTwilight*cough*. I wish it had been around when I was a teenager. Alas! At least it's around now.

3 stars is pushing it. Parts of it were good, but overall I didn't like the characters (only a couple side characters seemed to have any depth) and found some of to be too over the top.

Probably the only steinbeck that women actually get a role other than mother or prostitute. I love his writing, the christian overtones and the story kept me spellbound, feels like a quick read despite its overwhelming 500 and some pages! Delightful!

Simple, poetic introduction to Coretta Scott King, gorgeously illustrated.

As we are in the midst of a Presidential election and the campaign mud-slinging is in full force, I was in the mood for some humor injected into the political realm. I was first introduced to P.J. O’Rourke while working for his lecture agency, and for years I have enjoyed reading his books and columns. Don’t Vote is a collection of chapters dealing with the issues of the 2010 election and O’Rourke’s leanings have changed slightly from libertarian to leaning Republican. Some of the chapters are rehashes of previous columns altering the means to make his points. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. It’s not his best work, but there were times when I truly appreciated his humor. He talks about becoming a father and how his anything goes political stances of the past have changed now that he has children. “I have lost all my First Amendment principles about rap songs lyrics. I am infuriated by them. Because I cannot understand a word that hip-hop musicians say. For all I know what’s spewing out of their mouths is ‘We need a single-payer national health care system,’ or ‘Home mortgage interest tax deductions subsidize the urban sprawl, increase the burden on transportation infrastructure, and lead to greater production of greenhouse gases.’” Thanks for the comic relief, P.J. We could all use a little of that while we’re dodging campaign telephone calls!
WOW! This is one time where I actually saw the movie before reading the book. On it's own, the movie is wonderful, but now after reading the book, I see the book is amazing on it's own...so much detail was left out of the movie. I love the humor Stockett puts in the book to ease the pain you feel for these ladies with everything they have going on in their lives. Then to read the author's notes on how she came up with this book. Absolutely amazing. I really hope she writes another book in the near future. Great read! Would highly suggest the book and movie to everyone. This maybe a fictional novel, but stuff really happened like this in the 60's...almost hard to believe the mind set we had back then, but then again we are still like that, just a different form now...

I loved this book. I didn't think I would at first because it's written as a series of letters. I was so sad when I finished the book. I just wanted it to go on and on.
This was not one of my favorites. There is quite a formulaic approach to many of his books and this is one of them. The boy girl tag team romance is getting really old. This one also smacked of Stephen King which Koontz in my opinion never does. He is still one of my favorite authors.
Onunla buluştum!
