I am fuming to how people were and are treated. This story wa sa bout hope, learning new things, family and courage. The crops were an interesting way of measuring time.

Compares and contrasts several war's causes and buildup. The overarching theme is reasonable. But the level of detail devoted to each conflict is minimalistic. Additional nuances and depth was ommitted for readability. Still a good book, but not an excellent one for those interest in military history (at any level).

Finally a book that has genuine character development. I haven't read character development like this since East by Edith Pattou, though this book wasn't as awesome as the book aforementioned but I still enjoyed it. Main character Prince George is a very interesting and conflicted character. He doesn't want his powers to understand animals, he doesn't want to be king, he doesn't want to be anything. It isn't until later in the book that George meets Beatrice, his betrothal from a kingdom called Sarrey that he begins to learn about not only himself but of the interesting princess who's constant companion is a black hound. First of when I picked up this book I didn't really glance at the back noticing that this book was a version of the classic beauty and the beast tale. And I have had several different version. But as got further into the book I completely forgot about that theme and was completely into the story that had a new refreshing feel to it. At one instant in the book I was actually surprised, if not twice. In the end I was completely satisfied with the pace, the back stories, and characters to the point of where I didn't see a need for another book. But would I read another from this series? Probably not because the ending of this book just seemed to wrap everything up pretty well. Overall, once again, a really good book.
While this is ultimately the book that drove me away from Catholicism for the first time, it is a well-done defense of Catholicism and its tenets by someone who has been very critical of the church and the faith in general. Definitely worth picking up regardless of your beliefs.

This book is utterly bizarre, confusing and absolutely wonderful. It vexes me after 20 minutes yet I never want to put it down. Awesome.

There's a meme among much of the political left that the liberal viewpoint is devoid of ideology and is inherently pragmatic. There's also the meme that Jesus Christ, were he alive today, would be a liberal. American Savior, perhaps inadvertently, is the literary result of those memes. The idea is simple, in this case: Jesus has returned, and he wants to run for president. He gets together a small group of reporters and their families to make the run, and the book follows the campaign through election day. The book is mostly well-written. The annoying "we're going to name people who are famous without actually naming them, so here's a guy who has a first name that sounds like 'Wolf' and the last name 'Spitzer'" is throughout. The concept of Jesus is kind of weird, and the main character is frustratingly annoying. It's just a weird book. And, at the end of the day, it just feels like a stealth ideological attempt to co-opt a religious figure. The rest of the ideology hinted at in the book is pretty standard stereotyping as is, and Jesus keeps talking about how he's a different way of thinking while pretty much adopting left wing viewpoints. It's not really groundbreaking and mostly frustrating, especially if you have any political knowledge. Skip this one if you ever have the opportunity. It's not really worth the energy.

This book was an interesting account of a young boys horrid experiences during the strife in Sierra Leone in the mid-90's. We should be happy we live in America.
one's enough
