An engaging biography of the famous 20th century Hungarian mathematician Paul Erdos.

I find Dave Eggers' writing to be so egotistical it's a turn-off.

A great book! Really helped me understand the characters more, as well as the background to the underlying stories. Found it harder to read than I thought - the language, although I loved it, had me concentrating more, to get into the flow of it. It also wasn't a page turner as such, as I knew the story line, so wasn't necessarily hanging off every page to find out what happens next. A great read in any case. A must read!

To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters-never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight. As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City-whatever the cost? Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of bestselling series the Mortal Instruments. Includes an exclusive sneak peek of the fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series: City of Fallen Angels! And don''t miss the teaser from Clockwork Angel, the first book in the Infernal Devices trilogy, the prequel to the Mortal Instruments series.

YA Fantasy. Katherine Sutton is one of Lady Elizabeth's maids, until Kate's sister displeases Queen Mary, and Kate gets sent into exile at the mysterious castle known as the Perilous Gard. An excellent retelling of Tam Lin. Set in 1558, deep in the English countryside and rife with fairy folk, The Perilous Gard is clearly influenced by the ballad, but Pope adds so many original details that the story doesn't feel at all predictable or rote. Kate is a wonderful protagonist: Tough, questioning, sympathetic, and down to earth. Her Tam, Christopher, is dashing but says some nearly unforgivable things to her—jokes about wanting to beat her, or lock her up. It's completely distasteful, but perhaps Pope thought that's how men flirted in the 16th century. If you can manage to overlook that, their relationship is one of equals, and it's obvious Christopher couldn't have been saved by anyone but Kate. Four stars. A smart story where no detail is wasted. My favorite of the three Tam Lin stories I've read this year. Recommended.
A sobering book to end the year amidst all the Christmas cheer. Banks skilfully weaves together how a small town reacts to a terrible tragedy from various different perspectives. Memorable.

Not one of the author's best. Kept me turning the pages, but the story really wasn't that great. I think it could have been fleshed out more, because it all seemed to wrap up too neatly and quickly at the end. It was on the shorter side of most of Warner's books too. For me, personally, there was an awful lot of "after-school-special"-y vibes hanging around the whole "blind" thing. And Connor's magical lipreading abilities do nothing short of amaze me. :-P

That Mr. Hitchens is quite the name dropper, but he is entertaining as hell. Am still in his Oxford years and look forward to the more crazy boozin times he had with Amis and well, everybody apparently.
This is virtually the same story as Ender's Game, but told from the perspective of a different character in the story. In Ender's Game, one of the students training with Ender is Bean. This is the story of how Bean came to train at the military academy and the problems he faced there. It's hard for me to be objective about this book. I don't know if it was enjoyable because it was a good book, or if I liked it because it revealed more about a story I already liked. I think it's enough to say that if you liked Ender's Game, you'll like Ender's Shadow, and you shouldn't read Shadow without reading Game.
