I'm blazing through it and loving it so far. I'm about 75 pages into it but just had to put it down and compose myself as two sentences made tears spring into my eyes and drove me here to make a note. To quote : "When you let animals into your life, even as a foster parent, you are making a promise that you will take care of them for as long as it takes, until they find a home of their own. When they finally do leave, there's a part of them that stays with you and a part of you with them." I've fostered 20+ kittens in my time as an animal foster mom and what the author said is so true. That second sentence made me miss my sweet foster kitten, Zorro. He was my favorite and sometimes I just miss him so terribly. I'm sure he's happy and healthy in his forever home, wherever that is, but there will always be a little Zorro-shaped hole in my life.

This was actually a great book, contrary to what I was hoping for. I'm glad I finally caught up with this series. I'm anxious to read "New York to Dallas" and I'm glad that this series hasn't gone old. You know what I mean right? After almost forty books , J.D.Robb keeps on scoring. The stakes are high than ever and the next book sure seems more of the same!

"Anarchic" seems to be the prevailing descriptor for not only this novel of adventures but for the new-found life of the main character, Vatanen, after he rescues a hare injured by the vehicle he is traveling in. He abandons his current life and makes no plans, hare in tow. While different from how I thought the tale was going to unfold--and a little dated having been published first in 1975--this is thoroughly enjoyable as a straight-forward rollicker about a societal drop-out or as allegory for any number of things. Up to you and your inclinations. My favorite part is where the Finnish cops want to put him in jail but they are stymied by the hare: to put the hare into prison would be cruelty to animals but Vatanen has a signed note saying he must take care of the animal. A conundrum who's only conclusion--which the authorities don't come to--is that it is cruelty to humans to put them in prison. That's the kind of morality on display here, light satire and a vivacious lust for life (at least from a male's view point).

I know this is controversial as not everyone liked it, but this was a fantastic book. Vanderhaeghe has also written some phenomenal short stories, which I recommend everyone digs up. Great stuff.

Sonunda renkli görüntüler ve bonus hikayeleri nasıl içerdiklerini seviyorum. Geçirgen, daha küçük hacimli sürümlerde bu "komut dosyaları" olup olmadığını hatırlayamıyorum, ama onları çok sevdim. Watsuki'nin karakterlerin geleceği hakkında planladığı şey için yazdığı şeyleri bile okudum (son okuduğumda yapmadığımı bildiğim bir şeydi). Hala bu daha büyük sürümleri tutmak zor ve omurgada kırışıklıkları önlemeye çalışırken daha da zor buluyorum. Ama, cüzdanımı biraz gönül yarası kurtardılar, bu yüzden çok fazla şikayet edemiyorum.
