Terzah´s Sons is a novel set in Storm Constantine´s wraeththu world. The main character of this book is the har Terzah from the tribe of Kheops. His consort Zen (a former Varr but now Gelaming) was appointed as an ambassador by the Tigron Pellaz-har-Aralis to a settlement of Megalithica for human refugees. Terzah hates humans and has no scruples about killing a human thief whom he caught stealing in his kafta (the traditional dwelling of the Kheops tribe). This incident sets things in motion Terzahl wouldn´t have dreamed of - involving adopting human children, working together with the humans to defend their community against raiders, being confronted with his consorts dark past and so on. I just love Terzah. His straight forward manner, his sharp tongue (one of my favorite statements are his first words to Zen when they first met at a party in the Tigron´s palace: "Move it,asshole. You´re standing on my hem." and Zen fell instantly in love with him.). I liked to read how he started to care for the community although he was far from being happy that he and Zen had to move to this settlement and how he tried to be there for his adopted sons. Maybe, before you read this book you should be at least acquainted with the wraeththu (a new hermaphrodite race on earth) and read Storm´s Wraeththu chronicles and histories. You will either love wraeththu or hate them, it depends on if you can do anything with the concept of hermaphrodites or not. But if you get really into their world like I did you will be fascinated for sure. I´m hooked...

I've poo-poo'ed this book so much, I figure that I need to read it to have more ammo to poo-poo it adequately.

the director of our student television station gave this to me when i worked for him around christmas my freshman year of high school. i didn't read it until i was a senior in college but if ever there was a book to read and say, that's so nicole. there's no robots or music, but there is a guy whose generous heart makes him a little looney in the eyes of everyone else. and he's an volunteer fire fighter, which is two sidesteps from floor fire warden in my book.

This was my first Tom Robbins book and I was blown away from page 1. Definitely out of the ordinary, and a real treat if you're bored with what you've been reading lately.

Really more of a 3.5. Liked the first two but couldn't stand the heroine of the third, though I do love the tortured hero plot. Heroine seemed a feather head who behaved unbelievably. 2.5 The first story ended a little too abruptly. It seemed there should have been a little more to it--some daring escape scene or something. I realized I'd read this story before as parts of it had stuck with me, which is a good sign. 3.5 Samantha Jeffries's story was sweet. Sure, little Charlie Dickens was a hokey touch, but isn't that was Christmas stories are all about? 4

I read this but I don't remember a lot about it. I was pregnant at the time and remembered it was very disturbing.

This book reads like a historical account rather than a novel. It was a fascinating true story of how a group of Jews hid in the forests of Belarussia rather than face certain death by the Nazis. These Jews armed themselves and fought to preserve their lives as their group grew from just a few to over 1,200 by the end of the war. The recent movie that came out under the same name was based on this book, but strayed quite a bit from what really happened. I would recommend both the movie and the book, however for a different view of the Jewish experience during the holocaust, where a group would not allow themselves to be victims.

We loved this book about a frog who is lead on an adventure because of his sticky tongue. The illustrations are beautiful and the minimal text is perfect. I found as I was reading it that I was using more sound effects than words anyway. We had several giggles with this one.

I like Ringo a lot, so live Free or Die confused me a little, since he went into the infrastructure of gearing up for war rather than the action of space exploration, or of attack and tactics. I found it less compelling than his others, but it's the lead-in to Citadel, so maybe it will speed up a little.
