I have been reading this book on and off for over a month. However, this has not been due to any lack of suspense or plot, but rather my ever piling homework. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was recommended to me along with the Mistborn series. Having read Elantris as well as the first Mistborn, I have become a Brandon Sanderson fan. His stories are gripping and entertaining with containing sex, graphic violence, or any other metaphorical "poop" in my cookie. All in all, I would recommend this book to all my friends.

Typical John Sandford, hard to put down.

Normally I read Mike's stuff for non-stop action. Often there's a good bit of thought provoking material in the books as well. This book is a bit light on the action compared to his previous books, but is probably second only to Freehold in terms of cultural compare and contrast. I am in awe of his portrayal of alien cultures. This is quite possibly the best first contact novel I've ever read. Everything is consistent enough that I don't have to suspend disbelief, and the aliens are both very like us, yet different in ways consistent with the limitations of their environment. Great read. My biggest issue... it's too short. I'm looking forward to more.
A typical 80s love story. It is a light read and well written. I just seemed to lose interest. It is reminiscent of Sandra Brown's older [love] stories, which I love.

A classid, though it does move a little slowly. You have to love Scout's spunk, and who isn't just a little scared about the prospect of Boo Radley?

I got this book via Karen and I need to say, just wow. It is a sweet read about a topic that could have been grim and depressing. There are many references to Mr. Darcy and while the love story line of the book was predictable, the story of the occupation of the Isle of Guernsey was thoughtful, compelling and an aspect of WWII that I now want to know more about. Well done!
You'll either love it or hate it. . .
Really wasn't a fan of this -- Hillary Mantel needed a much stricter editor, one who would have made the book tighter (and shorter, which it needed to be). She did pull off a really interesting feat in that I was both compelled and repulsed by most of the characters, especially the dead ones, but I found it draggy and unenjoyable. One positive note: It had a great ending, deliberately anti-climactic but surprising at the same time. Points dutifully given for that.
