What an exciting ride! Once I started this book, I couldn't stop. It's rather short so within one day, I was excited, disgusted, shocked, and hopeful.(not neccessarily in that order). I've always suspected that this is the real face of pologmy. A system calculated by men to enslave women in the name of religion.

A good book. I was hoping it would be a bit more personal, but that's ok. It does share some great stories and inspires me with every chapter I read.
I agree with the "book-lovers book" and the "oh, come on" plot at the end. It sucked me in though. I could not stop reading this book. I loved the beautiful settings, the smell of the old books and the quest for the truth from a dying woman who has lied her whole life.
Solid story of the rise of one of America's Favorite racehorses. Easy read, well, easy prose but lots of details about bloodlines, race splits, etc.

i was hoping for more from this overhyped "next great american novel", but i thought it dragged a lot.
I saw the movie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, before reading Steig Larsson’s book, and I really enjoyed it. The movie is very true to the novel, but the main surprise I found in reading was how handsome and intriguing the main character was meant to be. Lisbeth’s attraction to him is much more believable in the book. And Lisbeth herself is perfectly cast! I think I liked the book even better than the movie. The story starts slowly with lots of details of financial intrigue that really don’t intrigue me at all. But Lisbeth’s story, woven between, keeps me reading till Blomkvist comes to life. Now I’m pulled in by mystery, fascinating characters, corruption and careful investigation. The author plants details very cleverly, leading the reader to see through the character’s eyes—what did he notice? Why is he looking again? Then finally he finds it. Meanwhile Lisbeth becomes far more than a tortured genius. There are depths and mystery in her, partly explained, partly hid, that will certainly have me coming back for more in the next book. The characters are deeper and more fascinating in the book than in the movie. The locales are beautifully scripted. The plot is both more complex and more believable. And the whole is a great read—well, as long as you get past (but don’t skip) the economics at the start. (Yes, sorry; the economic arguments are essential to the plot.) Time to watch the next movie now, and read the next book. Disclosure: I was given the three books in this series as a gift.

This frenchy was a wise man, though a bit cynical for my taste. I wish people still wrote books like this. I'd like to see what Adam Corolla's Maxims would look like.

I felt like it was slowed down with too much detail or back story that I felt wasn't needed. but I loved the story and the romance. there were some rape issues. but over all I really loved the story.
Wicked good! 4 stars for the romance, 5 stars for the creative writing ..and creativity always wins! A vivid painting of characters and their feelings..it was all in the details..oh! the delicious details and observations..It was like figuring out the complexity and meaning behind an artwork instead of dismissing it as "pretty" with its profusion of shapes and colors. Simple observations..yet so much thought in them. When the hero finds his cheating fiancée in bed with another man instead of calling him out to a duel which the hero was sure to win, he decides to take revenge in an unorthodox manner..must say! it was thoroughly entertaining and darkly amusing..revenge has never been more fun! But I did wonder why he even bothered, as he had not been truly in love with his fiancée..all this for hurt pride? And this is where I fell 'a little in love' with the writing.. the hero in his internal musings described his feelings for the aforesaid fiancée with a touch-a-chord-simplicity by saying, "She'd been a...hope." I loved that, I don't know why that was so effective..but it was (to me). That was just the beginning.. This was a book where I could literally feel them falling in love.. it was personal, almost like reading someone's diary. It was equally descriptive from both the hero and the heroine's point of view.. I liked them both.. Okay! I fell in love with the hero long before the heroine did.. that part made me give a 4 star to the romance.. the kind, thoughtful, very intelligent, observant h held on to her ideal -love for the wimpy harry- beyond a point of confusion to d-uh thinking.. I can identify with both the confusion and d-uh thinking, but I thought she was smarter than me...apparently not! Only, I realized that, her stubborn mind-set resulted in a dramatic and oh! so satisfactory happily ever after that an overall 5 stars thanks to all the drama and energized writing is absolutely justified. If this is a series, there were not many other characters other than the heroine's sister who seemed interesting enough to deserve a book of their own.. I would love to be proved wrong. Have to ask, whats with the title?..am I missing some brilliant satire?
