Poems that are like meditations. Many of the poems mourn the human greed that dangerously destroys the very earth that sustains us.

This nonfiction book examines why and how people connect to each other on a deeper level than incipient friendship. The author explains what research reveals how weathering an emotional time or a trauma together, communicating deep experiences or emotions, making oneself vulnerable, and other qualities or experiences bind us to others in ways we may not even be aware of. The concepts, with engaging examples and explanations make for good reading that provides valuable insights into how humans work.

I'm a speech-language pathologist and I used a few students this week. They loved it and I was able to use it for multiple disabilities. My own children loved it, too. I borrowed this copy from the library so I guess I'll have to track down my own copy at some point!

I picked the wrong time of year to start this book. At first I felt it was slow and kept putting it down but then I was super into it and didn't have any free time to read. I don't read Stephen King novels. I just wanted to read it because I heard it was an amazing time travel story - and I agree. I loved all the research done into the Kennedy assassination and I loved the crazy time travel paradox that King imagined.

My fiance and I always read a book aloud to each other at least once a week. This was an excellent choice for us and I enjoyed it just as much as I had as a child. He had never read it and he LOVED it. The book is magic.
I remember loving this book as a child but could remember very little about the plot except that it involved a girl on an island. Rereading this kids' classic, I was surprised to learn that the story was based on a real-life girl who lived alone on an island for 18 years. Goodness! While the story is good, it didn't resonate with me as much as it did when I was in elementary school. At that time, the idea of a female child being self-sufficient on an island was very appealing and exciting; while it's still a good story today, there was a fair amount of animal killing (all for food, shelter, or clothing) which always turns my stomach, regardless of the cause.

A lengthy collection of works by Soren Kierkegaard on one topic, love. However in true philosophic fashion the tangential discussions uncover a deeper meaning behind the love humans are capable of the the love received from a loving God. It was particularly difficult for me to wrap my head around and I often had to re-read chapters and take notes in the margins. But I have always felt that reading something in the limits of your comprehension gives you an intimate relationship with the work as you uncover its' meaning. pg 31 : "If one is to swear, then one must swear by the higher; but if one is to swear by eternity, then one swears by the duty that one '*shall love.'"
i've read this book at least 10 times since i was 10 or so.. it's funny and smart and the heroine is a tough-as-nails princess with dark hair. you don't find that very often.
