I really like Llosa's style, however the plot became tiresome after awhile. How many times can a man be treated disgracefully by a woman and continue to rescue her? Perhaps I am simply jaded (or not a man) however after the third time or so it seems ridiculous to me. I am looking forward to reading more of his work, however. Someone recommended La Fiesta del Chivo (The Feast of the Goat) which I will try to find next.

A controlled world in which a select few govern; an oligarchy; restrictive and regulated and impassive. I want in! Well, not "in" in, but this story, set in a future time, serves as a warning for what could happen when people fear simple, yet complex, emotions. The easy vocabulary makes it good read for children as well.

A very quick and funny read. Quirky sense of humor.

Fascinating commentary, salient points on the Isolated scope of innovation on the web and it's marginal impact on the economy as a whole...
Yes, you should read this book. The content is excellent and useful. If you have any desire to be a better problem solver or a better communicator, then I believe you will find this book useful. Especially if you are in any sort of leadership role. Stylistically, Dan writes as if he is speaking; a trait that seems to prevail among many author who are also speakers. That got in a way a few times, but it was a small annoyance.

Poems. Difficult read...unless you know some Irish History. Difficult History...unless you know some Irish.
A writer friend of mine suggest writer's read a little poetry everyday, and this was my most recent poetry book. The poems were hit or miss for me. I loved the Insect Collector's Demise by Jude Nutter.

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars--James Jean's art is absolutely gorgeous! Sadly, I felt the presentation was a bit lacking. Every now and then we got some comments from Jean about what he was going for in a particular illustration, or a note from Willingham giving directions on what he was wanting emphasized, and most pages had a few quotes from whatever issue the cover was for. But it seemed too little and too far between, and there was no real context to the quotes--sometimes they didn't seem to correspond to the cover illustration at all, that I could tell. It LOOKS really nice, but I think it could have been done a lot better than it was. Even so, it's definitely worth it to see the covers all in order, and the preliminary sketches for them.
