Let me tell you something...the movie SUCKED and totally ruined the book. So many people I know have said they will not read this book because the movie was so bad, BUT the book was hilarious and the movie was not an accurate depiction. It did not capture the book at all. I recommend...especially if you like ridiculous humor!
Slogging through this one. Only about six chapters in and I'm still waiting for the plot to pick up speed. The narrator has a really strong voice in this, also there lots of funny comparisons between Frenchmen and Italians.

This is a trilogy that centers around a world parallel to our own where peoples souls are embodied as sentinent animals. It is a brilliant critique against organized religion and a fun foray into a world that is both different and similar to our own. Even people who dont like fantasy will love it

This book shocked me in every way and it ROCKED!
The story of Meursault, a French Algerian who tells of the events in his life with an emotionless indifference to, among other notable happenings, the death of his mother, The Stranger was Camus’ first novel. The main character’s mater-of-fact narration and tone present a man functioning only with the most coldly perceived understanding of what’s going on around him. Almost completely void of feeling, his detachment leaves him an outsider, or stranger, in his community, at once free from societal rules and yet helpless as a bobbing cork, as the storyline washes him this way and that. The novel pivots around his seemingly inexcusable murder of a local man and his inability to process responsibility or defend himself against those seeking to punish him for his actions. An exploration of free will and responsibility, The Stranger is spare and quiet, allowing fundamental philosophical ideas to appear in high relief while at the same time revealing Camus’ great storytelling capabilities.
I loved this book not only because it was a wonderful addition to Mrs. Dalloway, but also because it was a beautifully written book itself. Cunningham deftly weaves three stories together, bringing them seamlessly together in the surprising ending. However, anyone thinking of reading this should definitely read Mrs. Dalloway first, as they will miss important parallels otherwise.

I was interested in this after finishing Authentic Happiness. Unfortunately, this isn't as much of a scholarly work as that and I get distracted by the author's trying to establish credibility and lame Ivy league humor. I may try to finish it, although not as zealously as I did Seligman's work... Didn't make it too far.
