While a great follow-up, the writing was somewhat choppy and felt almost forced in some places. But the ending was good, and the reveal of Tick's powers was evenly spaced and a great suspense tactic. A good read for anyone, but I would recommend it for kids and tweens between the ages of 6 and 13.

Must-read for those interested in the effects of colonialism & skeptical about the inevitability of violent rebellion. May not convince you of the necessity of violence, but will explain a few things about the psychology of colonialist occupation. it's not a perfect book - it's full of bitterness and vitriol, but some of its insights are astounding.
I am enjoying the humor in this book and can't wait to see how "Odd" gets himself out of this
Want to learn what a leader is? Would you like to understand how an imperfect man can become one of the greatest presidents in American History? Sick of Bush being a bastard and need an escape? Read about Teddy and know what a good president can do. I particularly liked Morris's chapter on the Spanish-American war. Teddy (few who knew him would have dared to call him that) worked hard to start it (which was bad) but then he went and personally fought on the front lines (which is good). If our current president could read, he'd do well to act more like Desmond Morris' very vivid Theodore Roosevelt.

So I give it 4 stars cuz there was a story about Roland in it, but other than that, the book was a bit tame and some of the endings seemed rushed or not complete. I did like the story that Stephen tells us is his version of hell, that was a good one, much like Dark Tower to me. I read it for 1408, the story was not all that good, I'm hoping the movie is better!

I liked this book, but, like the first book in the series, it seemed choppy and rushed. I felt like I was being pulled from chapter to chapter with only a small synopsis of what happened and the significance of what happened. I wonder if it shouldn't have been two books, with more fleshing out of the story and characters in each volume. That being said, I will read the next book in the series, and I hope it will be less choppy!
I have always wanted to tackle this epic poem. One day I will find the time. It might be nice to read it with someone else.. good one to talk about as you're going.

I'm an open-minded person. Yet I cannot enjoy close-minded writings. If you feel like running over a small puppy, beating the crap out of your neighbor, and kicking old ladies you may be in the mood to read this. If you enjoy arrogance, snobbery and hate-filled diatribes toward all religions, then this is the book you want to peruse. If you actually want something more tolerant/educational to read, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. Anywhere else.
a reference! unbelievable amount of information that are suffiecient to change the life as we know it!...made me angry at the beginning for its shocking message but then made me THINK...What If?!?! one of the greates books I ever read

Not her best. This book started out very choppy and felt like she was tired of writing this series. It did finally start coming together 1/3 of the way in, and developed well after that. But, it'd really be nice if she moved the characters beyond the rut they/she are in. Have some major plot development. Maybe Hamish should actually get together with one of his lovely women, and they become a team in the mystery solving. Break out of the formula, M.C.!
