I liked New Moon but it wasn't my favorite book by Stephenie Meyers, i think that it had to much of Jacob in it.

Very purely written. Have read a few WW2 books, but this was different. One could feel the dakness and fear. Really liked it.

The Wife by Meg Wolitzer This book is a must read for everyone considering entering into a lifetime partnership, if only to see how not to do things. Wolitzer hits gender politics right on the head, exposing the strong woman’s sometime need of a wife. I think that if the protagonist were truly strong, she would have proceeded diferently. However, I find the parallel in relationships around me intriguing. Are all relationships essentially based on one person leading and the other holding them up? Is it possible for two people to engage in a relationship and both reach greatness, or does one’s dreams always take precedent?

I pulled this off my shelf of best loved children's books (the ones I had to keep when I stopped teaching) and read it in an hour or so. It's such a great kids book that I was compelled to read parts out loud to Brad, which I think he also enjoyed quite a bit. It has enough smart humor to stay engaging even if you aren't between the ages of 8 and 12.

In my opinion, The Handmaid's Tale had a very similar feel to George Orwell's 1984. The society in which they live has a closely related totalitarian government and the way people are restricted and must live. New words have been instituted and rights have been taken away. Although I personally believe Orwell did a better job of creating total rule by the government and he thought out every detail of his world. The job of the handmaid also was a surprise after we finally find out what it is. The most interesting thing about this book in terms of format was that she did not use quotation marks when characters spoke. This book actually turned out to be better than I expected and showed great imagery and connection within Atwood's writing style.

Witty and fun.
This seems somehow warmer--nicer, say--than Joyce's other stuff.
