A little confusing to read. Albert stated that some of the book would be written from McQuaid's view which made sense but was awkwardly done. It would have been better to write it first person from him.

This actually did have me laughing and giggling out loud. Bryson is descriptive and witty and he travels around Britain and it was thoroughly enjoyable and somewhat enlightening to get an 'outsiders' view of the country I call home. I was a bit disappointed that he didn't foray further into Wales (but I an slightly biased on that point) and that he completely missed out Northern Ireland but on the whole a very well written, witty, enjoyable and yet informative book. It really made me want to get out and about with a pair of hiking boots and an OS map and see what hidden treasures I can find.

I am still disappointed about William's death in the previous book. I really like Jack though and he seems to have grown into a better character in this book. He seems stronger (yet overwhelmed) with his new responsibilities. I'm hating the Seth/Connie storyline though. I just want Connie and Jack to be together. I really hate this Seth complication. As usual, the author leaves us with cliffhangers. Will Rennie survive to become a vampire? What will happen with this new doctor character who wants to witness his change? Will Seth and Connie be rescued from the faerie island before it disappears for 100 years? And of course what is going to happen with Will and Diana? Will Diana corrupt her son into working with her to try to destroy Jack and the Slayer? Will Connie find out that Jack is the father of her baby, and when will she realize she's pregnant? Surely the girl can do the math!

In the English manor tradition, this book meets the criteria with a satisfying feeling of having visited the country. A quick read, it kept me involved and satisfied with that feeling that only an English cozy novel can bring. When I need a quick diversionary read, I will turn again to this author.
ithink it is a great adventourouse book and teeches you ways of the japanese

One of my absolute favorite books. Maybe it's because we read both of them in the same year of high school, but I can't help comparing this to Catch-22. Both address the absurdity and monstrosity of war, but this does it in about 1/4 of the space, manages to stay very funny throughout, and is inventively structured. I read this book every year or so, just to remind myself of what it says. It's that good.

Good for a mindless summer read, but I wasn't 100% crazy about how the book ended. It left things a little bit flat for me.

Interesting read. He's much more of a stubborn, and sometimes irresponsible person than I would have expected.
