A friend of mine who is equally fond of quirkiness and random deep thoughts recommended this book to me, and I'm really glad I finally listened and picked it up. There were a couple parts near the beginning that I had a hard time getting through, but for the most part it was entertaining as well as thought-provoking. There's so much in this book that can be taken apart and examined--modern-day American culture, love, the meaning of symbols... and throughout the book there's the encouragement to live life passionately, to fully enjoy every bit of it--which is my main philosophy on life. Plus, the book is freaking funny.

Phillipa Gregory is one of my favorite authors.
My first experience of Lee Child and I have to say I found it a lickety-split cracking good read - perefct to fill a week's worth of bus rides to work without ever looking out of the window. As with almost all thrillers, I found the ending wrapped up just a little too quickly and without sustaining the promise of the first 95% of the book but that's a very minor quibble. A wonderful discovery

Review to come.
I have so many mixed emotions about this book. The author was recommended to me by several people and I had great anticipation before I even started the book. The genre of detective crime novel peaked my interest, as well as it being set in the back drop of an orthodox Jewish community. It read like a television show (not movie) and unfortunately the language of the criminals and detectives were too realistic for me. I did like one of the main characters - Nina Lazarus, the Jewish woman responsible for the mikvah. So I did learn more about the Jewish customs and religion, but the outcome was predictable and that was a disappointment. Apparently there are many more novels and Nina continues to be one of the main characters, but I don't think I'll be continuing on this reading path of crime.

These books were the best Eddings I ever read. The last book, in particular, is just as epic as anything in LOTR. Too bad the Malloreon sucked. Zandramas, who gives a shit?
A "must have" for any lowcountry southern lady. Typical Junior League cook book, with a great blend of everyday recipes as well as party fare & delicious sweets. And the coastal seafood recipes are wonderful. What's special about this book though are the original Gullah recipes written in their native language. It's truly an historical account of lowcountry South Carolina food.
