This book is heart breaking. The imagery is so spectacular and real at the same time. I skipped the movie because I can't imagine that any film could capture what I already saw when I read the book. There is no way to do justice to the movie that was created in my brain when I read this master piece.

Initially I was hesitant to read another "young readers" book, but the idea of a young girl who stole and read books to others in Nazi Germany appealed to me. The book starts off slowly but picks up the pace after the first chapter or so and what followed was a beautiful and fascinating story about coming of age and innocence lost growing up in Nazi Germany. The book is funny, exciting, and moving throughout. The ending was perfect. It left me in tears, satisfied, and yet wanting more all at the same time.
