It was horrible when I had to read it for Reading class in intermediate school, but I find myself drawn back to this series.

So I've read a few Eisner books, all post-Spirit tomes of witty but overwrought moral tales. Always appreciated why he was important but never loved him. But the Spirit, his less weighty work. Amazing! It's just like with classic Hollywood, the "important" pictures about "big" issues are ponderous and thick while the dirty, cheap and fun pictures carry much more weight and meaning in their shadows and sideways glances at the truth. Eisner's storytelling in the Spirit is incredible. There is no fat. He does more in 7 pages than most writers can get done in 24, 48, or more. Each panel can be pored over. The little details can make this a very slow read. The depth of emotion in the image, the way his characterizations sway from cartoonish to deeply realistic. The hard-boiled dialogue covering gritty truths of old school New York urban life. I'll be picking up the Spirit archives soon.

*Squeeeee* Imagine my excitement when I found this lovely book on NetGalley. Yeah, I was over the moon! The first book in the series Firelight blew me away with its completely unique story line and its amazing world that Sophie Jordan has created and of course, Vanish was just as good. This story starts off where Firelight finished. Jacinda and her family are on their way back to the Pride after Caspian has found them. But no sooner are Will’s cousins on their trail after they have discovered what Jacinda really is. Luckily for Jacinda, help appears in a person that was once written off by the Pride giving them chance to make their escape. Once back at the Pride, things are harder than ever and rules have now been enforced. Will trying to settle back in, Jacinda must now prove to the pride that she does belong amongst them but how can she do that when she still loves Will? But when Jacinda and Cassian become closer, she has a choice to make…….Stay at the Pride with Cassian or leave forever and be with Will? Who will she choose? It was so great being back in the Draki world. Sophie Jordan has one incredible imagination and if you thought Firelight was great, then you’re going to love this. Jacinda for me became a much more likable person this time around, not that she wasn’t likable in the first book but she goes through so many different emotions during this book, I felt I connected with her that much more. She is always going to be an awesome character but I loved we got to see so many different sides of her. Cassian, I also liked him more this time around too and honestly, sometimes I was just as torn as Jacinda is but then Will….ahhhh Will but pop back up into the story line and for me Cassian was forgotten. My only complaint and why I rated the book 4.5 inside of 5 was NOT ENOUGH WILL in this book! I needed and wanted more of him but things are looking up for the next instalment. The storyline itself has twists and turns throughout and honestly some of the things that happened left me totally shocked. I’m not going to say much; however the book cover for one……is a shocker…..but a fantastic addition to the story. But what shocked me the most was Cassian’s and Jacinda’s story. My heart broke for Jacinda as she is forced into something she doesn’t want but is left with no other choice. Yeah like I said SHOCKER!!! We also finally get to see what Pride life is really like and it’s a lot harder for our characters this time around. With all the new rules and dictation amongst the Pride, I really felt you seen the nastier side to Pride life. And honestly, I don’t think I’d want to live their either. Overall, Sophie Jordan has created another book with the same amount of captivity and imagination as the first book and honestly doesn’t disappoint. I’m dying to find out some news on book 3 as that cliff-hanger will leave you wanting to know more. Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

This is a Romantic tale in its classic sense -- dashing, exotic young man meets beautiful girl in central Asia; they marry, in spite of opposition from both sets of parents; they flee the Russian Revolution to Iran; they return to try to drive out the Bolsheviks; the hero dies in a hail of gunfire as the Red Army invades the city, his machine-gun nest overrun.

Anne Lamott is incredible, she really is, and the only reason that I'm only giving this book three stars is that I'm not typically taken with shizzle that takes place in the real world. In Blue Shoe, people meet, talk, fight, fuck, live, love, hate, and do all those other fun and happy things that people are known to do. Wonderful writing, excellent humor, and very understandable characters that I sympathized with from time to time. An excellent book; just not my type.

THANKS KYLE for the gift! This is a great NEUTRAL book that discusses global climate change: its various causes, effects, and what human actions either way would (hypothetically) do to change earth's climate. You can flip through and just read the "quickie" information boxes, go more in depth, or even jump into case studies. The book really lets you learn as much as you want about the topic. Well organized, a great read. No matter which side of the debate you are on, this will add to your knowledge of the topic.
It was lovely to see Sarah and Grey the parrot again. This was very different from Lackey's other Elemental Masters books but I really enjoyed this. A welcome change in the series.

When I read this I really liked it. Looking back, however, I think what I really liked was the ending. This book resonated with me in ways that I wish it hadn't.
If Bill Bryson wrote a book about dog shows, this would be it. Funny.
