Adornettto definately did not disappoint with this read. Full of drama, manipulation, and lies, Hades proves that when it comes down to good vs. evil, good will always win no matter what. However it is hard to take that into account when Bethany, one of the main characters is captured by Jake thorn, one of the most devious and manipulative beings. He takes her into the depths of the earth, into a place called Hell where no other angel of heaven have gone before. It takes months before she has any hope of being rescued. During this time her feelings toward her one true love, Xavier are tested and it takes every amount of her strength not to succumb to Jake and his fake promises. A very powerful read that will test readers' faith and ultimately their loyalty towards God. I would recommend this read to anyone who likes a good romance and suspenseful novel.

I vividly remember reading this on the bus and trying not to cry when Aslan was killed. Probably the first book that provoked that kind of emotional response in me.
oops... I didn't listen to this book, I read it. I swear!
If I could give this book negative stars, I gladly would. I didn't care to finish the book. I'll find a source about how my body works without feeling like the butt of a snide joke every other page.

Not the best known of Nabakov's books, but perhaps my favorite.
My first encounter with Harris and it was a good one. A quick enough read given I got hooked and kept going though it could be made to last longer -- measure out the enjoyment so to speak. I've heard much praise on Harris's books, largely the Sookie Stachouse series and I actually have most of that series in my hands -- but I also had this one -- so perverse though it might seem, I began with this first in the Harper connely series and am glad i did -- I'm going to pick up the others already in print and keep reading as they come along while diving into the Sookie books in between. Interesting premise and pretty well executed -- teaser chapter one of the second book leads me to think I'm going to enjoy that one as well as Idid this.
"Matt," a rural teenager decides to abandon life on the farm and seek glory and adventure in the army. He trains with his comrades, takes a position in the mobile infantry, and is sent to an ongoing war in Afghanistan. While there, he discovers that war is ugly and nothing like the stories he's been told. Honor takes a back seat to survival and he finds himself doing things that he never thought possible. He's tormented by his own morality, the conscience of his friend Lucas, and the fact that he can't even write home about his life. His fiance leaves him, he's wounded, and he sinks into depression. This book chronicles his battles (internal and external) and his interactions with famous events, places, and people - including his commander, King Alexander the Great... ...What? Matthias is a pawn in King Alexander's battles against Spitamenes through Afghanistan and farther north. We'll never know how much of the author's book is borrowed from today's headlines and how much he pulled from antiquity. This is a page-turning tale, but not as good as the author's previous book "Gates of Fire."
An excerpt from page 54: "It must have been a fascinating period alright," Shep was saying. "I wish to hell I had seen it. But from the point of view of economic morality, it was bankrupt as hell, wasn't it? All that crazy speculation, people buying stuff they didn't need, with money they didn't have. And all the fat cats repeating 'Business is fundamentally sound.' That's what fell on us like a ton of bricks --and we're still trying to dig ourselves out from under." I don't remember how this book found its way onto my to-read list. It pre-dates my time on goodreads, back when I only kept a little notebook to jot down interesting titles. It languished on my virtual shelf for so long. Shame. It's fucking amazing.
The social satire is enjoyable (if a bit overkill), but it is in the exploration of dimensions where this book really shines.
loved it
