I'm counting this as two books for my yearly tally. This particular volume is two novels in one. Both are noir-but-not-really mysteries involving an alternate universe where dinosaurs survived the mass extinction and now live dressed as humans among the rest of us. The lead character is a velocirapter PI. Both books have mysteries that are well-crafted and have surprising turns. I thoroughly enjoyed both, which is saying a lot considering I found the book for $5 on the bargain table at B&N.

I read the first four books in this series (didn't know there was a fifth until today!) in three days when I was 10. Since then, I've re-read them a few more times, including fairly rececently and I still love them. I was surprised, on the most recent and only read as an adult, at how relevent they still are in my life. The thoughts they provoke and their applicability to my religious beliefs. These books helped shape my character and spirituality as a child, and I still love them today.
This is a chilling and disturbing tale. I wasn't expecting it to keep my attention for so long, but it did for the most part. There were only a few times when I got a bit bored. There were definitely some elements of the book I was not expecting, which made it more interesting. It was pretty depressing, however, so that is why I only gave it three stars. I am glad I finally read this book, I have wanted to for a long time.

This book was sooo good!! It has a twisting end and is an adventurous love story
God this book is gorgeous. My dad bought this for me when I was quite young and I just thought Antonia was the bomb shit and I was so sad when she and the narrator didn't marry. I think I reread it in college and liked it a lot more and also saw she had too much spirit or something for the narrator? I don't remember quite what, but it really is a beautiful depiction of a an extraordinary person living an ordinary life and making other people's ordinary lives feel extraordinary. I also think this is a very interesting era/place (minnesota, right?)

The Silver Lining is the third volume of the Gables of Legacy. This is a remarkable story about personal revelation, the power of the Comforter, and a profound discovery about the meaning of eternal bridges.
Maeve Binchy is a reliable choice for a story that presents characters with choices, then lets the reader enjoy the resolutions. As she often does, Binchy presents a set of people with a set of problems. Their interactions and choices involve the reader, and the reassuring outcomes are soothing. Sometimes that's just what I need!

The front was a bit complicated and the book goes back to time and comes back, while people keeps dying and coming back to life...
Another favorite of mine. It was assigned to my by the school, but once I began reading it, I knew I'd have to buy my own copy. The story plays out well, with a good pacing and never a hard-to-read moment. Very touching, all the way to the ending.
