Why are so many reviews actually a book report? If I haven't read the book, there's too much information, so why bother to read it. If I have read it, I don't need to read all the details again. I am disappointed in this book. In general, I like Susan Andersen's books and I buy them when they come out. This one is a waste of money. I could get it from the library and save myself several dollars and the storage room to keep it. It's not a bad book, it's just not good and certainly not on par with her previous books. This series is not my favorite of hers and this book is definately the worst of the series.

As much as I liked Collapse, I like this book even better.

Started off slow-ish and inherently repetitive, but once I got over a hump in the middle I was hooked until the end. Cool story!

This book was not that great. The story was good, but the writing was awful. The movie was much better and I don't think I have ever said that about a movie.

Daphne comes from Pandemonium. She is the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith. Yes, the Lucifer and Lilith. When her brother Obie (son of Lilith and Adam) goes missing, Daphne must go to Earth and find him with the help of a tragically damaged boy. Smoulder is a strange, beautiful book. There's an almost creepy innocence about Daphne, unusual for a demon. Truman Flynn is one of the best written broken boy characters I've come across in a long time; genuinely heartbreaking. A dark, dark tale but very compelling. There were scenes that made me clap hand over my mouth in shock.
I just couldn't get through it.
I loved it! I couldn't put it down--it was fast-paced, with an interesting main plot (this "Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen") interspersed with plenty of personal stories, history of running snippets...and some propaganda. I docked it a star for the sometimes heavy=handed preaching about minimal running. Though, it's inspired me to try barefoot/minimal running, so it apparently worked. :) Tough book to read with a stress fracture...it made me want to RUN!

A pleasant, but brief intro to the life of Franz Kafka. The real draw (if you will) here are the illustrations by R. Crumb, which pushes this to 4 stars.

I haven't read anything from Derting before this book but I have The Pledge for read it. If I have to descript this book with one word, this will be: Surprise. I read some reviews and well, most are good but also, I read bad. Well, I have to coincide with them but let's specify more and WHY. JAY & VIOLET: A SWEET STORY OF LOVE Violet and Jay are friends since first grade. Everybody thinks that they are more than just good firends this is how the story ends. ~Avril L.. Violet always says no without any thought but right now... she's lying. Because this summer, Jay grows-up and now, he's the hottest boy in the high-school and well, the play together on the bed, on the sofa... How can Violet no fall in love with him? It's too difficult. Alas! I almost forgot to say that Vi has a strange power: she can detect the dead bodies with something she calls echoes. And well, there's an assassin in her town, killing the poor young girlsthat he finds. Violet has to find who is the assassin before him kills her. Well, like you can see the principal in this story is the love between Vi and Jay and this love is so, so sweet. I really like how Vi finds herself in the trouble of: I love him but if he doesn't love me... What about our friendship? But I love him. No I can't love him. Maybe you can think that this can be so bored but it doesn't. Derting does it perfect. As Jay and Vi evolution on the path of find their happiness and their love... Well I can't explain it. I can't and if I have to explain it in Spanish ditto. I can't. It was wonderful and you can only understand if you read the book. NOT EVERYTHING IS A WONDERFUL FAIRYTALE Well, in my book's summary you can also see that the "paranormal & mystery" sides are loose, weak. If you thought it you're right. Violet's ability is on the book but Derting doesn't advantage as I like she does it. Yeah, I know that this is a trilogy but, I don't know, I expect some more. And well the mystery part was OK. In the book we have two POV: Vi and the assassin’s crazy thoughts. I like the assassin’s chapters: they're shorts and entertaining. But, the mystery was well raised but little used. The end was so quickly and I hate that. Why all the books have to has the end in one chapter and the things you don't attract have to be 5(e.g.) chapters? WHY? I will never understand this... FINALLY I love the characters Violet was not a wimpy girl and I love her. Jay was... OMG! But, I bought the book because I want to know what Violet’s ability was. Yeah, I like the romance but, Where's paranormal? And mystery? So, finally, I have to say... 4/5. Also, I have to say, Desires of the Dead is coming to my X-MAS tree..

The Landscape of Love/The Sisters Mortland Rating 4.5 stars Beautifully written, haunting and gripping right till the end. Reminds me a bit of The Distant Hours and The House at Riverton - both by Kate Morton.
