Interesting premise: trying to find common experiential, psychological traits among creative types in a variety of fields. Boring execution: typical clinical psycho-babble. I almost finished the book, but my interest trailed off.

I think this man is fundamentally misguided in everything he writes and teaches. He tries to make common sense into philosophy, and while it is not convincing, it is kind of fun to read to see how wrong he can be. This book is probably the best because it is one of his earliest, and sets out the tenets of this thought. Almost every other book of his after this reiterates this theory in one way or another.
I loved this book. It was like "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz" mushed together with just a bite of scariness, okay, maybe more than a bite, but it was really good!

Easily Vonnegut's best. Do not say you don't like Vonnegut until you have read this book.
I love Salinger. It has a bit of cynicism which is of course, a favorite of mine. Not to mention, it is easy to follow, not too intellectual but requires enough brain power to think a little.

The Amelia Peabody series still hasn't grown stale for me. The characters are so delghtful, their adventures are so exhilarating, and so many wonderful new characters are added, that it is still fresh and more fun than the three-ring circus that their lives often resemble. In this installment, Amelia and co. are on the trail of thieves who've stolen a few very valuable pieces of Ancient Egyptian jewelery from their good friend, Cyrus Vandergelt, as they try to work out a pattern to a number of other seemingly unrelated events.

"Stupid and Contagious" is about being 20-something and not sure what you are doing with your life...or why. It's also about odd people, their habits, and their romances. If you want a quick read and a solid chuckle, I say: Go for it! (Especially if you are a girl or a emo/hipster boy).
4 1/2 stars, but I can't give that, so I round up. A beautiful and moving book that is poignant and full of grace. The prose breaths and allows for an organic narrative to unfold, told between alternating chapters for the majority of the text, we learn of Victoria, Elizabeth, and Grant. Told through the voice of Victoria, a scared and wounded woman/girl, tells her narrative with a straightforwardness that if done badly would end up reading as sentimental rubbish, but Diffenbaugh is able to negotiate this difficult boundary and produces a text that is amazing. The book has its moments where it stumbles towards the end, where it seems to want to rush forward, but the rhythm of the narrative is found again and the text rights itself. Outside of everything else in the book, I will never look at flowers the same way.
