This book can be a bit slow-moving in places, but it's an interesting look at the changing social mores and the characters are fleshed out well and believable (some almost too believable - the John and Ellie thing... well, Jojo Moyes must have a friend who's stuck in one of those dead-end affairs and has her fingers stuck in her ears when anyone tries to impart logic into her love-addled brain) - it's also filled with frustrating Shakespearean near-misses and some heart wrenching love letters - and in a world filled with 140-character conversations, I'm always a sucker for a good love letter. It ended up as one of those books I stayed up to finish because I just had to see how it all wrapped up. (I was the tiniest bit irritated by the overuse of the word tattoo - not in reference to permanent designs inked on one's skin, but in reference to rhythmic tapping - once or twice was okay, but when it was used more than 4 times, it gets a little distracting)

This was a really good book. There are lots of characters, but they are easy to keep straight. This book spans many years, but it is also easy to follow when everything is happening. There is definitely magic in this book, but it is more understated, and is, somehow, not the only thing going on, even though that may be the way it seems in the beginning. I like the main characters and the relationships they all develop over the years.
