Really nice cover art of a small bird in a Kalmia latifolia bush, but unfortunately that's about the most inviting thing about the book. The author can write-- it's intelligent, technically sound, well structured, and thought provoking. Trouble is that the thoughts inspired by both her subject matter and characters include,"What would be the best way to kill all these annoying *^$@&%!!!!!" and "How soon can I finish this and get on to something less depressing?" Of course, not every character has to be likeable, but can't even one be? Of course, social/moral issues belong in literature, but what opinions are you likely to sway with your writing if your readers have stopped halfway through, and wandered away sadly to find the fastest way of doing themselves in? This author is a better writer than I will ever be, but even I know that it doesn't hurt to make your reader smile once or twice along the way.
This is a fairly straight-forward story about Jennings Burch, an autobiography describing the author's traumatic childhood. One of six boys, son to an alcoholic father and an overwhelmed mother, Jennings grew up in and out of orphanages and foster homes. The book details his experiences - the people who were cruel, and the kind people that helped Jennings maintain his humanity and love for others. If you like to read this sort of story, you'll probably consider it a pretty decent read.

Pollyanna! I love this girl! I got the first book as a new year gift from my sisters. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed that book. How many times I read the book I can't stop myself from smiling at this girl's cheerfullness and happiness. And her glad game is what I adore the most! I expected the same from the sequel. First, the book went really slow! I, kind of, got bored even! That is when I realized why. Pollyanna is seeing the 'real world' face to face. She is seeing the dark sides of world. She grows really sad with seeing them. When I looked at it this way, I enjoyed the book a lot! This book was just as amazing as the last. I loved it a lott!!! I recommend both the first and the sequel books to anyone who is down. It will definitely make you smile! :)
So, if you have ever seen Disney's version of The Beauty and the Beast, then basically you can predict what will happen. I kinda knew what would happen the moment I started reading it(probably because my friend told me what happened in the movie, although not the same i do not think). Anyway, it was a very good book, although maybe a bit cliche'. I liked the twist at the end. Great. Now I can see the movie :)

Great book. Fun to read. It would make a great read to read with your child.
dear webmaster / moderator : i've seen this website only a few minutes ago. if my hurry isn't haste, go ahead and put it online. arun the godfather - mario puzo i was all of 21, alone, and in suburbia. our environment in 1977 was as yet untouched by 'mafia'. family honor, fighting for territory, roll in the hay, egghead becomes ruthless, little sicily, power vacuums etc. are ancient themes. but we were in a connected world, post victorian, post world war, post hippie, post vietnam! so the book seemed like a resurrected epic to a generation being weaned away from dickens, orwell, westerns, perry mason, chase and all those conformist and non conformist, pep ups and dirty books from dale carnegie to nick carter. god! was it 34 years ago? arun

Not a light read in terms of subject matter, but almost too easy to read in terms of writing style. Touching, sometimes moving, and leaves you with a sad yet hopeful feeling at the end. If you need a quick, maybe eye-opening, read...I suggest going out and picking it up right away!

I quit Graduate School in 1968 to go work for RFK's campaign. When the CIA killed him to keep Vietnam going, it was the turning point in so many lives. We knew then that we were going to have to do more than work within the system. Cambodia, Kent State and 6 megatons of bombs on civilians later......we finally got rid of dickless nixxon and ended the war. If you listen to the speeches, you know the world was going to be a better place with him in that Oval Office. Instead, we got the war crazy nixxon.
Once again Richelle sucked me into her world of vampires and dhampirs. I loved that this was told from Sydney's point of view with the Alchemists thoughts and feelings. I would definitely read the Vampire Academy series first because you will be confused on a lot of things if you haven't read that yet. 4.5 stars

Having worked for a company that makes perfumes for the past six years, I have slowly been growing from the kind of girl who enjoys a nice fragrance here and there, to an obsessive perfume hound. This book is basically my new bible, and I find myself grabbing for it every five minutes when I remember another perfume that I want to read their reviews of. It's started me on a new perfume buying spree which is both good and regrettable for my wallet. But ultimately, perfume is living art. And I love it.
