This book has a story. I was working on a novel (never finished as usual) and part of it was set in Egypt, so I was looking for some fiction set in Egypt. I found out about this book and that it had Akenaton as a main character (and he was to play a part in my book as well) so I hunted for it for a long time. I finally dished out some cash (and as you may know I'm pretty cheap) to get it off the internet after searching endless used bookstores. The result: I saw it somewhere else a week later for a fraction of the price. I read it and it wasn't that great. Kind of slow and repetitive. I'm sure there's a moral to this story somewhere, I just can't figure it out at the moment.

I know they are formulaic and over the top, but the Stephanie Plum series is my go-to series whenever I need something light and comical. As usual Evanovich delivers with this one. I thought this one was actually better than some of the previous ones in the series because Evanovich actually moved a bit away from her usual formula. Stephanie’s car surprisingly makes it in one piece, she doesn’t get as beat up and there were some nice surprises in terms of character development. Also, the mystery person was revealed pretty early in the book so it became more of a beat the clock type of story instead of a who-dun-it type of mystery. I like the changes and I hope that Evanovich continues to veer away from the formula in the future books. What I didn’t care for though is the damn love triangle. It’s not developing at all. For FFS, even the insipid Sookie has picked a man and gone with it! I don’t understand Stephanie’s commitment issues, her reasons for them or why she can’t make out the difference between lust and love. It’s the one thing I really find annoying in this series. As usual the secondary characters, like Lula, Grandma Mazur and Stephanie’s father continually deliver comedy relief. I really liked Lula and Sally Sweets in this one. The whole band thing was hilarious. Marvin Pickle, the movie theatre pervert, is also a nice addition to the cast. I also really loved getting to know Ranger better. Mmmm, he’s so damn yummy!

Dije que si lo conseguía seguro lo releía y rerreseñaba. Por primera vez cumplo con mi palabra y acá me embarco en una reseña un cachitín más elaborada sobre este gran comic. En mi primera lectura me pareció muy buen comic, pero promedié el puntaje para abajo porque el final me pareció predecible. Ahora, sabiéndolo de antemano, en vez de especular sobre cómo iba a terminar el periplo directamente disfruté el viaje, y para ello nada mejor que ir acompañado de los espectaculares dibujos de McNiven y, en menor medida, los diálogos de Millar, quizás menos filosos acá que en otros de sus laburos. Se nota que está pochocleando bastante, pero al menos le queda bastante rico. En su momento leí que con este laburo él quería hacer el "Dark Knight" de Wolverine. No creo que haya llegado a ese punto, sobre todo en cuanto a cómo pueda influenciar este laburo las futuras reinterpretaciones del personaje. Pero la intención es buena y si en vez de una historia definitiva se lo ve como una mezcla western-roadmovie-superhéroes funciona mucho mejor. Y eso que no vi "Unforgiven", que por lo que veo fue una de las grandes influcencias de Millar a la hora de armar la historia, así que seguro que me perdí varios guiños. Cuando la vea, probablemente rerrelea el cómic y lo rerrerreseñe.
