Once I got into the format of the story I loved it. The sense of impending doom, the way the author caught me up in the helplessness... I cried desperately because there was nothing I could do to change the ending. I could have done without the Claire/Gomez dining room table scene, but oh well.

We read this shortly after reading the first in the series and while I enjoyed the introduction to Mozart and Vienna, it didn't have the flair and interest-level of the first book in the series. We're still continuing the series, but after we purchased book 3, one of my sons couldn't remember what happened in book 2 - not a good sign.

This book was amazing. I suggest it to anyone who loves to travel or fantasizes about traveling. It's a true story a woman's travels around the world. Great read.
I picked this short book up to supplement my reading of Shorto's book, Descartes' Bones. A quick read that affords an overview of Descartes' life and time.

As good as the Dressing Station. Similar format and fills in some of the gaps from the previous book. This one better explains and examines his motivations per the time he spends in Isreal as a teen. Powerful chapter on time spent in Iraq after 9/11. Philosophical. I love his writing and his detached compassion combined with his worldly demeanor. I wish more people knew about and were reading these books. Loads of insights, painful and profound but even funny sometimes. What a life!
Lovely tale of a Bangladeshi young woman sent to London for an arranged marriage with a much older man. Her introduction to the new culture, the loss of their 1st child, and difficulties raising her 2 daughters are a lovely tale of hardship, endurance and triumph.
OK, they may not all take less then an hour, but there are some great creative relatively easy recipes in here---this is one of my most used cookbooks. They are broken up into the four seasons, which I really like since I like to cook with seasonal veggies.

Not your average day crime thriller taking place in post modern futurama London... A good read with some )of course) plot twists to keep you on your toes...
This is memoir of a midwife during the 1950s in London and reading it was an eye opening experience. It was very triggering in parts because it is not so different than the 1950s in North Carolina, except for the living conditions. Places, situations, dates change but people don't seem to. We still fear what we don't understand and we blame victims instead of perpetrators.
This book was a really fun steampunk take on the zombie mythos. While it began slow, there was some great character development and some fun action. Looking forward to a sequel.
