This book was awesome. It was very hard to put down and now I've got to wait till October to read the ending of the trilogy. I would recommend this book for older high school students and college students. Very well written and a fun read.

This a another of Mia's school reads. This was a very cute book. It captured farm life from the animals and the farmers point of view. It also told a great adventure story of perseverance and hard work and success. Fun read as well.

But their pact is temporary and betrayal seems inevitable as the fates of nations hang in the balance. My thoughts: This was my first Joanna Bourne novel, and I'm of slightly mixed emotions. I think I will be seeking out a few more to make my final determination, but while I liked the book overall, there was something about it that keeps needling the back of my mind, and not necessarily in a good way. I do like the characters though, they are a unique, interesting and fun bunch to read about. In fact I'm hoping there are more books about this group, those are the ones I'll be looking for. Interesting plot turns kept me guessing. I think there was something about the writing style that is what needles me, it just didn't quite flow as well as I would have liked it too. That however, didn't keep me from enjoying it, and thinking that there were some pretty great characters in this book. Strong heroes, heroines, loyal, conflicted, altogether likable, it was a good weekend read.

I was very disappointed in this book. It had gotten such stellar reviews, I expected more. This was not a difficult read and was very easy to get into, but halfway through it turned into a Good Grief, Is It Over YET? read. Her writing style did not grab me and the story got a little silly at the end. In the beginning, it was fascinating to read about the rituals, but I was disappointed to learn that the author completely made up the whole "red tent" thing - she admitted that she had found no proof that women in Biblical times even used such a thing as a red tent. Bah.

This is a book that knew where it was going but wasn't sure how it was getting there. When the author figured it out, he should have gone back and seriously edited/rewritten parts of the first half. I enjoyed the story and liked the characters but the inconsistencies in character development, the shifts in voice and the sudden, permanent shift in point of view distracted from my appreciation of the tale.
