Left Neglected is a beautiful story that feels like a memoir rather than fiction. The pages quickly turn while reading the journey of Sarah and her family as they adapt to a new lifestyle following a car accident. I will definitely be adding this book to my collection and look forward to re-reading this gem! This book was amazing and I can't wait to read more by this author! The characters are well-developed and realistically flawed. It is easy for readers to identify with the characters. The story flows and humor is used throughout the book. The author's research is used effectively without changing the tone of the story. She depicts people with disabilities in a respectful and realistic manner.

It took me a little while to get into, but I felt a much stronger attachment to the characters in this book than I did in the Glass Palace. There are just as many, but the time frame is much more compact, and the story unfolds as a very compelling tale. I'm glad it's a trilogy, as otherwise the ending would have seemed a little too unsettling.

What a sensational story! Fergus did a fantastic job giving voice to the heterogeneous group of characters. He brought their personalities to life; they jumped off the page, grabbed me by the hand and yanked me along on their journey. I especially liked the twins, Gretchen, Phemie and bird woman. I was intrigued by the premise of white women being promised as brides to the Indians in order to promote peace and assimilation of the races. The plot was compelling and didn't disappoint. I think Fergus delivered a thought provoking novel, which gave an interesting glimpse into a tumultuous period of American life. Well done!

This is such a fantastic work by a lay theologian. It's premise is the unity of the mystical experience across religions. He draws on Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and Taoist sources primarily. This volume launched a trend in the secular study of religion that has lasted down to today. Huston Smith, who has written one of the most often used textbooks on religion, credits this book with changing his life, inspiring him to become a student of religion rather than philosophy.
A very vicious and very funny look at the lives of the aristocratic layabouts in England during the 1930s. Tony last is a minor noble whose wife Brenda is from the gentry. They consider themselves poor although they have 15 servants in their huge, ugly pile of a Victorian house set on farmland in Sussex. To the reader they are dull and without merit but the Lasts are intriguing to the abominably ignorant and indolent members of their set in London, if only because they are not around much. Brenda embarks on an affair with the only person more tedious than her husband and the mental and emotional agony that results are wonderous to behold. Waugh at his diabolical best.
Loved it!! Anxiously awaiting the next book. I do feel like Zoey just needs to pick a guy though. Too much kissing! LOL!!

Franzen is an intense writer- he sucks you into the most despicable characters and then helps you to understand their vulnerabilities. This was a fascinating read and I was most interested in the Denise story. My only issue was that I felt Chip's changes at the end felt forced.

In school we listened to and read some of Martin Luther King's speeches and in recent years I had read a sermon or two of his, but that was the breadth of my experience with his work. Having now read the autobiography, I think it should be required reading in high schools. As many reviewers have mentioned, it is a little strange to call it an autobiography. However, there is so much first hand accounts that I don't really have a problem with it. I don't think that the editor, Clayborne Carson steered the book in a way unbefitting to King. The book gives you a thorough account of King's actions and involvement in the civil rights movement, as well as insight into his personal struggles. Two things really struck me about King's character throughout the book: his willingness to sacrifice and his strong faith in God. He (and his wife) were willing to sacrifice not only their time, efforts and resources but also their security in order to fight for civil rights. It doesn't seem that many Americans these days are willing to sacrifice much of anything for anything. The second aspect that struck me, his faith in God, is well-known. However, it was remarkable to read how he was constantly questioning himself, checking his motives and his intentions and realigning himself with God's will. His faith and his actions resulting from that faith are stunningly humbling. Another thing that I think is worth mentioning is the social power of the church. This account demonstrates how the church at one time really was a social engine in the community. Nearly all of King's civil rights movements were organized through and in the church or affiliates of the church. It's unclear to me if this would still be the case today. I think that generally, America's churches need to reconsider their missions, both in advocacy and community service. The book ends with King's last speech "I've Been to the Mountaintop" and his last sermon "The Drum Major Instinct." You can't help but get chills reading these, as it seems that King has come to the realization that his days are numbered and has made peace with this and with God. There are too many outstanding quotes to mention...just go read it!
Historia divertida ... Idea interesante. Creo que confié demasiado en el autor para NO incluir cosas picantes ... aunque sea leve. Así que decepcionó un poco al respecto.
