Aaron Dembski-Bowden kept me entertained and enthralled with the underpinnings of the Horus Heresy. This is a guy who is possibly the same age as I am and grew up playing 40K just like I did. You can feel the love in this book. The action scenes are tight and brutal. Especially when it comes to a death of a Custodes. That's all I'll say.

This is about a guy who goes home many years after writing "dirt" about his hometown and the people in it. Wonderful! Tropper has a great sense of humor and great one-liners. Definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it!

I had no expectations, but the pacing of this book is very good and managed to hold my interest until I finished it (which seems to be hard to do these days). I liked the characters, I liked the mythology the author created (though there were parts that I felt confused by it). I enjoyed the chemistry between Joshen and Senna, at the same time I didn't feel like it was a book just about the romance. There's a lot of action at the end of the book, the ending feels absolute (judging from the 'end' word in the last pages) and *gasp* it doesn't end with a cliffhanger (like 99% of YA books do these days) and it's *double gasp* not part of series (that I know of) so it gets brownie points just for that.

WOW. This book blew me away. I laughed, I cried, I pondered... While some of it seems outdated (all the slaves she owned do not want to be set free!), it was touching, intriguing, well-written, and has stood the test of time. I honestly cannot stop thinking about it. It has vaulted into my Top 10 Books.
