The book has a lot to offer in reference to meditative practices and mindful concepts. I was continually put off, however, by the concept "Radical Acceptance". It seems almost trademarked. For me her definition of Radical Acceptance would better be described by the words mindful acceptance. Mindfulness is a huge part of this writing. I will definitely read it again. There is alot of helpful material within the book's pages.
Scarry's prose is beautiful and her view of the world changed mine. There is SO MUCH in this book. I learned about: creation, destruction, the body, human needs and motivations, phenomenology, war, torture, pain, Judeo-Christianity, Marxism... This book of critical theory holds beautiful stories about our world and about ourselves.
Fast and witty take on the precious little we really can know about Shakespeare. I just love Billy Bryson!

True love is, apperently, timeless. The book is very unique in more than one way: 1. the plot is unexpected and very rare in books (I mean, not so many books are about time travelling). 2. The way the story is written. These are two points of view for the same event (sometimes told twice and sometimes completing the other). 3. The masterfuly control on all times and events. It means that the chronological sequence is perfect. 4. The end. Not so many books leaves me with tears running down my face. This one did. and in the middle of the bus (how amberassing...).
The voice of the novel was strong, reminding me of Lovely Bones. Problem was a lack of any real plot beside the one decision Mia had to make - whether to return to life after the death of her immediate family. Even that decision wasn't very torturous since Mia had no evidence of what would happen to her if she allowed herself to die. Besides her faith in an afterlife where she'd see her family again, the only temptation to let go sprang from her grief over losing them. Since Mia never met another person in her situation, for all she knew, death would be oblivion. The choice of life, on the other hand, meant returning to some physical pain, along with great friends, a devoted and imaginative boyfriend, and loving grandparents. No real drama there. The conflict/drama wasn't as deep as needed to make a great story. The memory vignettes were mostly feel-good scenes, lacking drama/conflict/tension as well, so I was inclined to skim most of them. Overall, this was an okay read, well written.

It has a lot of swearing so it kinda sucks
A great book about family and love.
Very reflective and wholesome moral truths for living, quite a fresh read in the world of inconsequential candy reads. While one might not agree with every Buddhist principle for living, as I myself don't, the general truths that you pick up and contemplate throughout the day are hard to escape. Easy and quick, yet full of substance and worthy of review time and again.
21 months - a funny rhyming book about an old house. Living in a big old house that's needed it's fix ups over the years this book has special meaning and humor for Mom and Dad.
