I liked Breathing Underwater better. It took longer in this book for the main character to "transform," so I didn't care about him or his story for a while. Also, I wish that I would've reread a classic telling of Beauty and the Beast first. I have always loved this fairy tale, but didn't remember many of the details. As different things happened, I found that I was orienting myself by the Disney (!) movie. Reading this makes me want to reread Robin McKinley's Beauty.

Had some bad language. Interesting love story
I must be a stick in the mud, because I didn't find this book as funny as most of the reviewers on this site did. Maybe I don't find pot humor funny anymore - and it was funny that the town constable had a 20-year pot addiction to the good, sticky stuff, but I couldn't find it humorous. Just sad, really. However, I enjoyed the quirky humor and the zany characters, but I found I didn't 'get' the book as much as I should have, perhaps. First chapter was the best. Loved the debate about the Amish affiliations of the suicide hanging in the kitchen. The "Lust Lizard", though, was just too out there for me. I did really enjoy all of the zany characters - the crazy lady, Molly Michon, the Warrior Babe of mutant-amazon movies, was the best character of all. I'm so glad she got a happy ending.

oddly charming tweenage chick-lit told first person by a math obsessed 8th grade girl facing serious ethical questions. totally dug the relationships as venn diagrams, the mathematically inept history teacher, the social hierarchies of Jr. high expressed in mathematical terms. Could have been really cheesy, but it came off as sincere.
This is a classic book on Yoder's thought that I have sitting on my shelf, waiting for some free time to read... A book on non-violence and peacemaking.

I found this book so confusing to begin with, to the point where I would just throw it down in frustration. However, I persisted because it had been recommended by a close friend. It was worth the persistence because after about 20 or so pages it developed into one of the most poignant and different love stories I have ever read.
