This book started out like it was all going to be about America spending too much. Im interested in that, but was expecting more from this book. Then they segued nicely into how this overconsumption and subsequent burn out is leading towards collaborative consumption. It then gives example after example of collaborative consumption businesses and theory. It has lots of data and statistics on this and so I really enjoyed it. Definitely worth reading if you care about economics, collaboration or how the US is resetting itself.

A great book. Bleak but compelling. Speaks to whether escaping your past is ever possible, what can really break a person, what it means to sacrifice. Also, there is a lot here about chosing your own life, not being bound to narrow expectations. Another book that lives in my carry-on bag for long trips.

Must re-read. I remember laughing out loud for at least five minutes at one point, but I can't remember why! Update: I reread it a few months ago. Not as funny, but still very enjoyable! Bringing it down to a 4.5.

This series has a very unique system of magic, something I can always get behind. It's interesting enough that I don't go cross-eyed reading page after page of description of use. That mixed with a female main character of strength, and it's a Cocktail of Happiness. While the charactors can be a little one-dimensional, it's 'made up' for with the breadth of characters. Or perhaps it's that breadth of characters that keeps the author from being able to explore the characters really deeply. I don't know that its necessarily a bad thing; the book is huge, though, and being able to *really* get behind more than one of the characters might help the reading go a little quicker. But... is that really what we want? :) I don't know. I will definitely read the next installment.
