Almost as good as Running With Scissors. Read that one first. Then this one. Then have a stiff drink.

I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as I hoped I would. I think maybe cyberpunk is not the sub-genre for me. I had a hard time following the plot and the use of jargon and slang along with the sentence structure and dialogue style just combined to make a thoroughly frustrating experience. This was an exercise in style that i just could not get into. On the up side, some of the more fast-paced scenes were a lot of fun and saved the book from being totally unlikeable for me.
Wow. If you told me that I would not just tolerate, but enjoy reading a 900+ page book about 17th century European politics, scientific revolutions, etiquette, cryptography, etc., I would not have believe you. The problem with this novel is that is so seamlessly blends historical fact, speculation and outright fiction, that I'm at a loss to find those seams. And after I'm done, I do want to know where those seams are, because Stephenson's world is so damned interesting. But enough of the "fact" stuff is so amazing, I guess that's enough. As for the story, it is the stereotypically amazingly detailed, sprawling Stephenson tome. I think he is without a doubt a maximalist. Could he use an editor? Yes and no. The story could use some more flow and momentum. But some of his digressions are absolutely fascinating, so I suppose it is a matter of taste. I think that some of the story was a bit slow and, if not ponderous, a bit too rambling. I found my attention flagging as the story switch focus to other characters, but without solidly connecting their stories or worlds. I feel like overall, it was worth it, and I'm eager to read the other two parts of the Baroque Cycle.

This is a prostitute you can admire.
He must've had a quota to fill from his publisher. this one was a stretch. the marconi stuff was pretty dull and as far as homicidal maniacs go, the killer in this one was lame. meh.

German title: Die Rückkehr des Tanzlehrers. Swedish Crime Novel I'm reading in German about an ex police chief who is tortured and killed. Neo-nazis -- such a ready target for the modern crime novel victim/villain.
Read this book in college while studying for a degree in Music Business. From what I remember, it was decent, just not exciting.

Pretty funny and great plot. I continue to be dissapointed that all of Hiaasen's heros "rescue" the damsel in distress and that the sexy desirable women are all 20 years younger than the men.

Amazing, I think I loved this one the best out of the trilogy. Full review to come.

Sounds like a fun read. "collects Mike Sacks’s unique humor pieces — Craigslist ads, lesser-known tantric positions, letters to famous authors, lists, jokes, and the occasional illustration — into one handsome volume"
