Intriguing style. Loved Edgar. This was a page turner... until the end. Absolutely awful ending. Two weeks later and I'm still ticked off! There are some holes in the story, too, that don't fully get explained.

Quite the tour de force. Provocative, stimulating and well-written. If you care about the future of the creativity, read this book.
All about the yuppie yanks (oh, sorry, preppies) - whenever a character fell for another you just knew it was doomed to fail. The unwritten rule of attraction was that if you liked someone else they sure as hell wouldn't like you.
Read the book, experience a unique and stunning epic. Then realize that some jerk make it into a movie starring Meryl Streep, Glen Close, Jeremy Irons, and Winona Ryder, all of whom play Chileans. Have a garbage can nearby for vomit collection.
I think we can all identify the necessary components for the "construct your own Kate Atkinson doorstopper" kit by now: * gruesome secrets in somebody's past, to be unraveled as the story proceeds * abducted child(ren), past or present * enough bouncing around on the narrative timeline to induce whiplash in the reader * grisly deaths in the present * police officers behaving badly * aforementioned bad behavior presented in a shamelessly manipulative fashion to engage the reader's sympathy * a minimum of two simultaneous ongoing chase narratives, possibly more * shameless invocation of coincidence as a plot-furthering device * about four to six parallel plot arcs, at least two of which are basically superfluous and seem to have been included either (a) to keep the author from getting bored or (b) to allow the author to dazzle us with her virtuosity, or both (but see previous item, re shameless invocation of coincidence, which surely involves some docking of virtuoso points) * Jackson Brodie * Jackson Brodie's baggage - which now includes a dog, apparently, in addition to his all-consuming need to protect every woman on the planet All in all, this is not a very promising set of ingredients. But, for the fourth time in a row, Kate Atkinson has taken them and, with what we reviewers might refer to as "her signature brand of humor, keen intelligence, and flair" concocted an irresistible yarn. There's no way that it should work, but it does. In Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King is on record as being "staggered by Atkinson's narrative wizardry". That makes two of us.

Entertainin. I sort of skimmed over the parts about things I wasn't about to do, like train pack dogs. Good to know that you can buy baby chicks through the mail. Who knew!
This one did not keep my attention very well. I became a bit confused with the different types of werewolves and who was good and who was bad. I liked that we learned a little bit more about Harry and his past in this one, along with getting some information about his parents. I also liked getting to see his darker desires and taste for power. It made him seem a bit more human.
was a teenage love story, great book for a young teenager!
