This was pretty fun - like a comic book without pictures (thankfully, because it's pretty gruesome (sp?)).

Wow. WOW! I’m blown away. I so did not expect to fall as hard for this book as I did. What a total and wonderful surprise! I’m probably one of the last people on the planet to have not seen the movie yet, but boy am I glad I haven’t. Getting to enjoy the book first was sooooo sweet. I absolutely loved this story and am sitting here now thinking what a disadvantage this puts my next book at. The chances are just so slim that it could begin to live up to the awesomeness of The Godfather. I am on a huge book-lovin’ high at the moment but also feeling depressed that it’s all over! I’m not ready for it all to be over! This was definitely one of those special cases of the perfect book at exactly the perfect time. It doesn’t get any better than that!

This is his best novel, in my opinion.
Not as good as Million Little Pieces.

This one took me a long time to read. It's a good book--I'd say about 60% of it is a great book--but it wanders and lags a bit too much for me. The characters are either interesting but inconsistent (like Becky Sharp) or consistent but uninteresting (like Dobbin). None of the characters are ultimately very likable, but that isn't a weakness, in my opinion. More of an issue is that the book is really two novels that intertwine a little bit at some key moments. One novel is the satiric look at the rise and fall of Becky Sharp and the other is the "romance" of Amelia and Dobbin. The former is by far the stronger part, and the scenes of Becky's triumphs in London are written without any allusion to Amelia and Dobbin. The romance isn't of much interest, and given the other narrative, the very idea of romance is treated with ambivalence. The problem, though, is that one plot or the other will take over for a hundred or more pages, and by the time Thackeray returns to the other plot, I had forgotten many of the important but undifferentiated characters. I'm glad I read it, but I would not say it is a "must read" novel from the 19th century.
Interesting. Probably merits a second read-through to get the full impact. I found the constant change in writing styles to be a little hard to get through. "This book is still pretty premium."
Fascinating story of a man who spent WWII in a ghetto in Warsaw and then how he was able to survive while the Germans attempted to tear down the ghetto and search out all the Jews to kill/torture them.

I usually don't like reading detective fiction but thought I would give this book a go based on the reviews and the fact that there are demons involved. I've been keen to explore books involving hot demons after reading Larissa Ione's fabulous Demonica series. This book is definitely a page turner with a good combination of suspense and drama, so much so that I stayed up to the early hours of the morning finishing it to find out 'who dunnit. ' The demons in this book are creatures that exist in a different universe/'spheres' and not your typical religious demons and angels stereotype. I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment.
Read it when it first came out! It's hilarious.
