Amber is in fourth grade. Her mom wants to get engaged to Max. Amber isn't sure she wants a step dad, but she likes Max. Amber discovers she can cope with change. A story about dealing with divorce and family issues. Again, I like how Amber and her mother talk about their problems, and that they include Max in their discussions as well.

Really good - a light, undemanding read for girls. Extremely funny and uplifting moments for anyone who has put up with others' children, looked after their own, had their heart broken, or got a bit fat.

This book is really really awesome. It's about this boy named Jason who narrates the events of his seventh-grade life. This is super funny: from pimples to hair to mothers and little brothers. It sort of replenishes the plot that you should be true to yourself and that being a teenager will probably be hard.

I was disappointed in this book as Pulizer Prize winner. The title is quite clever and descriptive, but overall I feel the story fell short. If I had not had such high expectations, I might have liked it better.

Solid, easy to understand and well presented. This guide really is the best I've read for gmat critical reasoning. My main ding revolves around the very few critical reasoning questions included in the guide.

This one was a disappointment. The premise sounded so promising: a historical novel about the viking exploration of Newfoundland in about the year 1000 or so, told from the point of view of a woman who is the wife of the leader. The narrator was a little boring. It was written as if the main character, Gudrid, was telling her life story to a monk, and what we are reading is exactly as she told him and as he recorded it. Unfortunately, Gudrid does not tell her story in an exciting way. The dialogue was not very interesting and not believable. The only really exciting part came at the very end, and it wasn't even part of Gudrid's story; she is retelling a story that she heard from someone else. I'm not sure how the Globe and Mail can declare that this is "historical fiction at its best," as claimed on the book cover. The Globe and I definitely have different opinions!

I can't really recommend a book that took me two months and four train rides to and from chicago to convince me to finally finish, but when o'connor is at her best, as she appeared to be in the latter half of this book, it's pretty hard to at a minimum not gasp in wonder at the gritty ironies she pokes into her stories.
