My older sister gave this book (and it's companion, Hello Cupcake!) to my little sister for her birthday last year... or two years ago. xD Either way, I really just love paging through these two books thanks to the ingenious ideas that the authors came up with! You think a cupcake is just a muffin with a bit of sugar coating? Think again! There seem to be unlimited ideas as to what you can do with a cupcake. Don't know any? Pick up one of these two books! If only to page through it and end up looking like =O because you can't believe that someone came up with THAT idea! (My favorite? The cupcake garden! Cupcakes with little peas, carrots, planted plants... etc!)

This is a lovely story about a boy who comes from a dysfunctional family on the wrong side of the tracks--the mother has died, the father works all the time, and his siblings are on the verge of juvenile delinquency. When he is befriended by a fellow classmate, who encourages his to raise chickens for a science project--hence, the title--he becomes more confident and less passive about his future. Good for middle school kids--I'm using it in a book discussion group for 7th and 8th grade kids this summer.

Oh how I want to make art about this book....it's got earthen imagery of Pablo Neruda and some of the otherworldliness of Borges. Should read if you like cleverly crafted novels, have ever had a broken heart, like origami, are an East LA flower picker or are into Mexican wrestling.

Awesome legal thriller. I loved the characters. This is the first book I have read by John Lescroart - and I liked it enough to pick up an older novel. This was a great, fun read. I enjoy legal thrillers and this is on the top of my list.
