Mr Lopez and Nathaniel Ayers form a unique friendship. Mr Lopez tries to get Nathaniel off the streets and to help him with his Schitzophrenia. Nathaniel Ayers is a drop out out of Julliard, a musical prodigy, whom has a mental breakdown and decides to live on the streets of Los Angeles. Mr. Lopez comes across him one day playing on the streets and decides to write a column on him. Over time Mr. Lopez learns that he cant force Nathaniel to get off the streets or seek help, it has to be on Nathaniel's own time. All Nathaniel needs is a friend he can trust, not someone to change his life. A very well written memoir, and I cant wait to see the movie.

A little superficial on the character development, but I liked it. Made me cry and still had a happy ending. A believable story (for the most part).

I learned a few things I didn't know about Dublin before. This is Peter Sheridans childhood story, telling of him and his family, their lodgers, school and the city they live in. It was fun to read about Dublin in the sixties straight after Angela's Ashes, which is in Limerick in the fifties. It was also a bad thing to read it after Angela's Ashes, because it really doesn't compare. Still, I really liked it and found it funny and even moving at times. Can be recommended.

I've come to terms with the fact that this guy writes books that are about half as long as they should be. He skims along the surface of lives, taking shallow scoops every few years or decades. I should be more annoyed by this, but what can I say? He's a hell of a writer.

I want to say first that I've read hundreds if not thousands of books and the largest percentage of them are probably fantasy. I love this book and rate it as one of my top 3 or 4 favorite novels. I can't recommend it too highly. I really don't think I can recommend it highly enough. Please read this book. I keep multiple copies on my shelf and have loaned out (read given away) many copies. This one is great. I read the omnibus edition of this book. It’s actually a trilogy. The Deed of Paksenarrion contains Sheepfarmer’s Daughter, Divided Allegiance, and Oath of Gold. I find it a truly exceptional high fantasy read. I rate it five stars as it’s in many ways (in my opinion of course) the best of it’s type. In a time when “attempts” at epic fantasy are a dime a dozen, a good (or great) one should be noticed. I don’t want to include any spoilers in this (and I know some actually look for them)***(note that I edited in a spoiler tag below. I decided that I had included a spoiler and came back to hide it under a warning. You may want to read the book before you read the part I hid.)*** but, let me mention what the book is actually about. It follows the life and career of a young woman who wants to be a soldier (the author Elizabeth Moon was military) from her beginning training throughout her life (view spoiler) *****I came back and edited in a spoiler tag, I decided something I said here is sort of a spoiler.***** (view spoiler) I have read this book (trilogy) many times and love it. It compares well to the “proto-epic fantasy", The Lord of the Rings, and I can and do recommend it (as well as The Lord of the Rings) highly. As I said, I can't recommend it highly enough. Great Book. I own all the books in print and audio versions. Highest possible recommendation. As noted above, this omnibus edition contains: Sheepfarmer's Daughter, Divided Allegiance, and Oath of Gold. One of my top favorites, 5 stars+.

Quick read, nicely done — I really like the language, how it's written; it's a good match for the period in which it's set, almost like a Jane Austen without the light humor. The content of the story, goes from polite parlor room to erotic, though, so it may surprise some readers who came to this book for the Regency setting and yet dive in without reading the blurb. Hint: it's a little more than just a love triangle, folks. I liked it, though. Probably my only nitpick about it is that you don't really know who Cecilia ends up marrying. It's left open in a bit of a lady-or-tiger kind of cop out ending. I really, seriously would have been fine with either choice, so long as the author actually made the choice and then justified it. It would have felt a more complete story if I didn't have to guess for myself, and I wouldn't have felt cheated out of a proper ending. My guess, of course, is that she went with the duke because of the bigger title and because of the two heroes his POV came first.
