I really liked this book. I came to the conclusion that Esme was a possible Aspie-- perhaps a mild case anyway. But, at the same time, I felt less sympathy for her than I thought I would. Okay, so assuming she was completely "normal" and just a free-spirit-- what's the point of being an independent thinker if it gets you locked away your entire life? Why not conform when it's important, while at the same time maintaining your uniqueness elsewhere? We all do it! When you're at work don't you dress and act a certain way as to keep your job? In other words, I thought that Esme could have controlled her behavior a bit more where it mattered-- at least to function in society. I'm not saying it's her fault she was locked away or that she "had it coming". I just thought she sacrificed her freedom in favor of being a free spirit. Ironic, eh?

Currently reading this novel... At times seems slightly superficial and almost rushed. However, it is an easy read and hard to put down.... Kristin Hannah Night Road page 12 First day of school Jude's twins are starting high school .... Her husband , "It's going to be an interesting ride, seeing who they become in the next four years." "Interesting for you," she said. "You're in the stands, watching the game. I'm down on field, taking the hits. I'm terrified something will go wrong."

I just finished The Tea Rose ... and I miss Fiona already! What an enjoyable read! Many events in The Tea Rose are improbable, but this did nothing to waver my enthusiasm for the book. I grew so attached to Fiona that the sometimes far-fetched plot was no hindrance to my reading enjoyment. I'm still pondering whether I want to read the next book, The Winter Rose. Will I be disappointed, or will I be drawn into the story as I was with The Tea Rose?

Mr. Yandamoori was wonderful telugu language writer!! He created waves during his times with this novel. Though many people criticised for writing a novel which promotes black magic and etc.,he darely chose this and mesmerized people with this work. This can be considered as one of best thrillers which will glue your eyes to the books and slide your fingers through the pages. I say every person has to read this and experience the thrill once in his life time. These kinds of books may be common in international languages, but to a local reader it wil give a wonderful thrill.
I love this story!

Not as great as the previous books but still an interesting series with unique characters. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Just Loved this book.
kinda boring
A historical epic that is a must read to understand the nature of slavery in the US. It's a first hand account of how Frederick Douglass was a born a slave, became self-educated, teaching himself and fellow slaves to read and write, and how he escaped to the North and became a free man fighting for abolition. I would have like to have read more details about his life, but he had to omit certain details for the sake of the safety of those who aided him.

Theroux is a good writer. Any man who, for the love of traveling, can actually traverse the entire globe (pretty much) deserves some credit. He loves trains and surely shows that love. Although this book was written way back in 1975 and things have changed a lot since, it may not be representative of the conditions in the railways anymore, but I doubt that readers would think about that. Its always about the adventure (or the lack of it) I would probably give this book 3.5 stars for the pictures it paints for any railway(or travelogues) enthusiasts, but I do not like his constant criticism of all trains. It was a refreshing read after a barrage of books that talk about how some foreigners visiting asian countries, and find that elusive charm in backwardness, filth, poverty or lack of organization, but he goes overboard and I barely remember any moment in the book when he actually said anything nice about any of the countries/cultures he visits. That kinda put me off a bit. And yeah, its way too long, I was practically reading it like a textbook after 200 pages.
