It's a love story between macho man Jordan Groves and an ambitious woman named Vanessa Cole. Russell Bank's The Reserve tells the story of two people struggling against the odds to hold onto their glimpse of the American Dream. Set in the summer if 1963, we start at a party at a luxury camp on a private reserve in the Adirondack Mountains. A pilot swoops in on a pontoon biplane looking for love and seeking adventure. Upon landing, Groves walks up to the group of people on the reserve and meets Cole. Groves falls quickly for Cole's witty personality, and is blinded by their differences in social status and wealth. Set on the eve of World War II, the romantic plot provides the reader new twists and turns.
Maybe a bit slow in the beginning, but it gets better and better, and especially towards the end I found it deeply moving. Nice to "meet" Elling again - at least I am pretty sure it's him!

Forgive your mother her flaws. She is a person too, with a life full of trouble before you ever came along. This is the South I love, too.

I've always loved Michael J. Fox, dating back to his Alex P. Keaton days on Family Ties. And, after watching a (Michael J. Fox hosted) ABC special last spring about optimism and happiness, I decided that I would like to read this book. He discusses his pre-Parkinson's life, his career, his family, his 20-year long love affair with his wife and his drive (and desire) to find a cure for Parkinson's, all with grace and humility. In his words, he is a "lucky man" (his first book), which I will definitely add to my list of books to read.

so i know you think you don't like sci-fi...but this book may just convince you that you have a little of that geeky passion in you. it's WONDERFUL.
a good look into the life of minimum wage workers in America. well researched, but the author seems extraordinarily eager to blame employers for all the problems and paints them as almost sadistic, when generally it is not a desire to harm employees that drives employers but a desire to succeed as a business. That being said, this is great look at minimum wage america from the perspective of the worker.
An incredible story! It is a story of hope, forgiveness, and love. Read this book!
Atlantis Unleashed by Alyssa Day was well worth the wait. According to the author's website quite a few months back, Alyssa Day was not able to publish her next book in the Warriors of Poseidon series due to illness. Happily, all is now well and the pub date was set for (technically) book 3. Justice finally gets his own book and his soul mate (Keely, an archaeologist) in this volume. Justice is one of Atlantis' finest warriors and that is reflected in the action that is an essential part of the story. But there is romance too, because of his strong connection to Keely and his overwhelming love for her. Alyssa packs plenty of story into each book she writes and this one is no exception. Each warrior has their own issues to overcome, each heroine has a back story that affects their future and the two eventually realize that they are stronger together than when they are apart. Also, the other characters in the series are not forgotten and woven into the fabric of the plot, enhancing it in their own way. I loved it! Great book that is a part of a great series. Very Recommended.
