I loved learning about Murakami as an author and as an athlete. He's really changed my perspective on running. I may even be willing to start. I feel inspired to do more for my own body.

This is the first graphic novel that I've read and actually liked! But I really liked it. I can definately see why this won the Printz award. No over dramatic facial expresions, just real life stuff. I really loved how the 3 seperate stories wound together. I look forward to more by this author.

This book was intriguing and very readable. I found the ending sad because I wanted Christopher to be able to show love/understanding, but of course he couldn't. Interesting note: Pottstown/Limerick area has a 50 percent higher population of autistic children than surrounding communities. A therapist who works with autistic kids recently told me that she suspects it's because of our friendly neighborhood nuclear plant. Yikes.

I read this back-to-back with Franny and Zooey. Highly recommended, although some stories are a little disturbing ("A Great Day for Bananafish" comes to mind).

LOVED this book. It is so rich and works on so many layers. It really is a postmodern alogory of world religion. Pi falls in love with Hinduism, Catholicism, and Islam. He studies these religions out of love for God and wanting to know more about God. Then he both physically and metaphorically goes on a journey to understand the complexities of human nature and God. A wonderful read. I see this book being read in every high school in 20 years.

I found this book to be similar to the movie Pearl Harbor in that it had a few clear break points, each of which could have constituted its own story, but strung together possibly made the whole work too long. As a note, I purchased the audiobook from iTunes, which is certainly a different experience than reading the text. The book is read by the author, and one advantage I appreciated was the authentic pronunciation of the numerous non-English words. I'm happy to share the mp3s (or CDs). The book is well written, with vivid detail and well-developed characters. It has some implausible plot turns, not least of which a series of over-the-top symbolic events that link the first half and last part of the book, which then nauseatingly are spelled out moments later. The insight to life in Afghanistan decades ago, as well as Afghanistan and Pakistan in the beginning of the 21st century is fascinating. The familiarity of the Bay Area references are fun. All in all, a solid book, but not a must-read.

One of my childhood favorites. I've never ever cried as much as I did over this book. I know I read it several times between 4th and 8th grade and blubbered every time. Being a dog lover didn't make it any easier. Even though it's a sure thing tear-jerker of a book I'd recommend to any young person.
I think I am going to love the WWII series better than the Vietnam one. I am really enjoying historical fiction. The author does a great job of checking his facts.

The eerie atmosphere of this novel is delightful!
