Once again, Sharon Shinn did not disappoint with this book that continues the story of angels and humans living in a world where science battles religion. I think this is a fantastic preview of what is to come for my favorite book written by Sharon Shinn, which is "The Alleluia Files".

I didn't dig the style of writing the author used, but the content was good for those wishing to get an introduction to what's happening to forgotten children and adults around the world. Slavery still exists and the people at International Justice Mission are trying to bring awareness and action to the problem. I feel like I finally got a better understanding of IJM and the people who work for them.

Stays on the back of my toilet. When guests are over, it is not uncommon to hear uproarious laughter coming from my bathroom.

At this point, the Alvin Maker series just seems like it's dragging on and on, and not going anywhere. I want to finish it, but why does it seem like so much more work than the first book in the series was?

The BFG is another great book by Roald Dahl. It's about a girl called Sophie who lives in an orphanage and is taken by the BFG in the 'witching hour'. Sophie immediately thinks the giant is going to have her for supper as we all know giants eat humans. However, the BFG is not your typical giant (as his name suggests!)he doesn't eat humans and instead he blows dreams into children's rooms whilst they sleep. Having the BFG as a dream blower, Roald Dahl tries to remove children's curiosity about the origins of dreaming in a creative way. There are some important concepts Roald Dahl pushes through in this book (such as having one rule for humans and another rule for giants, and humans being the only species to kill their own) which add food for thought. At the same time the book is magical and hilarious with the giants having their own language-it would be great to read aloud because of the funny words. The illustrations by Quentin Blake certainly add a lot to the book too. I did enjoy this book but not as much as I did when I first read it.

This is the story about how 25 computer PhDs employed by Big Blue (IBM) took on the challenge to compete with TV Jeopardy winners. It wasn’t an easy job. They had to design a computer that would listen and speak like a human. Flash-speed was also necessary as well as ability to recognize language subtleties such as slang, puns, and strangely phrased clues. Yet after four years the IBM collective minds met the challenge and their computer (named Watson) bested Jeopardy champions and made only few gaffes. IBM's next challenge: find a market for the machine’s massive capabilities and technologies. Medicine and law look promising.

Absolutely loved it! I have heard that some people criticize the move now, after reading the book, but I see the book and movie as being two totally separate entities. Even after reading (and loving!) this book, I still love the movie. Definitely pick it up to read! You'll love the story, and the illustrations!
