I also love this book - if you are in sales or manage a sales team this is a must read when you need to laugh at yourself a bit. If you are a parent this book is a great place to open the door discussing advertising and pesky sales people. The last page of the book is best!

I rather expected this book to be a key entry in the small but intriguing genre of "books written by cats." After all, I loved E.T.A. Hofmann's "The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr," and a friend recently gave me "The Dalai Lama's Cat" by David Michie. However, the nameless cat of Natsume Soseki's book, while ostensibly the author, admits somewhere around page 80 that he has become rather more like a person, and less interested in acting like a cat. Indeed, the cat is very much little more than a device to pen satirical comments on the eccentric and self-centered life of a Japanese scholar and his friends and neighbors. Other feline "authors," especially Murr, provide a sense that they want to explore both the nature of feline personalities and those of the attendant humans. Soseki quickly turns into a Japanese version of Wodehouse - poking fun at how silly bourgeois people are. I wish there had been more about the cat!

An entertaining quick read. Would have been better if I knew more about art. Definitely interesting from both a topic and plot standpoint.
Had to return to library. Will take out again soon.
this book only gets better with multiple readings.
Filled with logical flaws and inconsistencies. There is also little attempt on the author's part to cover his biasness. BUT, this is really quite an *essential* read for any Singaporean, Malaysian, or anybody interested in this region of the world. As a leader in the Malay world, Mahathir has articulated the reasons for and beliefs that led to the Bumiputra policy. Indeed, if people did not think as Mahathir did back in 1970, I wonder if Singapore would even exist today. So, whether you agree or disagree with his views, its important to know why he (and perhaps many current Malay leaders) feel this way.

3.5 stars Daisuke and Sakurai spend much of this book dancing around each other with violent clashes and strong attraction/passion that neither of them want to feel for the other. Incredibly strong willed, Dai craves a stronger willed partner that can dominate him, even though he barely recognizes his own need. He has spent his life fantasizing about out-of-reach people, in denial and living a vanilla het-life that fits with the idea of a NY cop. He does not want to acknowledge his needs. Sakurai has lived alone for so long and with so much immortal power that he has lost most motivation or interest to interact with anyone, including his own people. However, he does notice Dai and is hooked before he realizes it by Dai's aggression, passionate need to be dominated and strength of will. When family tragedy occurs at the hands of vampires, Dai knows he must become one to achieve vengence. Sakurai has baggage about turning a lover (carried over from Blood Brothers) but in the end they manage a partnership that does seem to be able to withstand eternity. I am giving this one 3.5 stars because of the common plot devices that I knew were coming. As with many of these types of books, my complaint is that everyone with more than two scenes in the book turns out evil and corrupt. Nearly everyone killed (there is much violence in this book, it is vampires afterall) is set up with backstory so that the reader is allowed to think "they had it coming" and "good riddance". "Thanks so much vampires for ridding the world of yet another degenerate." Additionally, my biggest pet-peeve, the female love interest character is also portrayed as manipulative and backstabbling. Although The sex in this book is very graphic and raw, the sex between Dai and Sakurai (that they both are awake and participating in) starts and stops several times for reason I never quite understand except to drag out the final conclusion. Much of it is dreams/fantasy/interupted until nearly the very end. I liked this book it was a good read that kept me entertained but I don't know if I liked it enough to try some of the backlist.
