Ah, the good old amnesia plot of romance novels! Why mess with the classics? No reason I can think of since the basic plot was quite enjoyable. The villains were interesting, there was believable tension between the characters and even the amnesia made sense somehow. Now why only two stars then? Firstly, the leading lady in this story has no character. She loves her husband, she loves her adoptive kids, she loves cooking... every chapter even begins with a bit from her cooking book. The fact that she loves cooking and other homemaking chores is mentioned several times by many characters, yet it still remains a shallow part of her character. It's never explored why she loves cooking so, how did she learn that skill as a noblewoman, doesn't she have any other interests? As such the poor woman comes across as one-dimensional and angelic...you know the type of romance novel heroine who wins the hero's love by being a good, simple woman who only needs protection and a nice kitchen? That leads to my second grievance. Mostly I liked the hero, he wasn't the boring valiant type, but instead had made his share of mistakes. Being amnesiac and all he had some trouble remembering why he would want to marry this cooking-obsessed lady. If only he would have discovered the answer to that question! Instead he just suddenly decides that he loves her and that's it. What sparked this sudden love remains a mystery and that just bugs me. It leaves me with the feeling that the hero is not in love with a real woman, but instead a cardboard add for a kitchen appliance. Whatever will he do when she's blown away on a windy day?

very good, simple, practical advice. and i plan to adopt some subset of it in the next year. i do think though that his 'plan' could have been the size of a pamphlet (and, in a lot of ways should have been). all of the 'it happened to us' stories and lead-up to what the plan will do for you read very much like an introduction. i was about halfway through the book thinking - and when do we start talking about this great plan i've heard about? it's true that it is in there. and it is a good, solid plan. but it is surrounded by an awful lot of marketing.
Some interesting concepts/ideas, and a nice setting that's part space opera, part Roman Empire. Any book that's galactic in scope runs the risk of focusing too much on the big picture and not enough on individuals, and Foundation is a prime example. There was far too little characterization for me to really get into it--every time I started to care, the book would jump to another scenario, far in the future. And where are the female characters? There's maybe one who was at all memorable. Despite the high acclaim for the series as a whole, I don't plan on reading any more of it in the near future.
Mrs. Dalloway was not what I would call a relaxing, enjoyable, easy-read, but I still had a hard time putting it down. The way the Virginia Woolfe puts everything together is genius. That being said, there are definitely times when I wanted to just scream, "Get to the point." It is written with very little dialog and endless simple thoughts from each character's head. Still, I found myself loving the characters (even Septimus, who is metally-ill, but I really felt like I understood him). I love how the characters are drawn together in the end. One thing I learned is how little we know of each other, even those closest to us. It is hard to know what is really in someone's head. I will definitely read this one again, there is more in this than you can get in one reading.
I liked this ok as pastime, but the main character annoyed me quite a bit. Some parts of it was funny, though this isn't as good as Hornby's other books.
I should have read the book before watching the movies. I was really disappointed with the ending of the book. Not what I expected at all.

Havada 30.000 fit iken bitirdim.
