finished before I was twelve. Read Three or for books of this series...
Great historical fiction- about the CIA- cloak and dagger stuff
This was a good overview of one of my favorite genealogy research sites. Since I've been using Rootsweb for years, there wasn't much new for me, but there were some good reminders about some features I haven't used in a while. I would recommend it.

I'm finding it hard to believe that this novel has had such a cultural impact---Frankenstein's monster is an iconic dark figure in pop culture---since the novel was such a boring read for me. The good Dr. Frankenstein is long-winded, self-absorbed, and self-contradictory, the creation of the monster is described in only the vaguest, most general terms and the mayhem he wreaks is telegraphed miles away from the actual catastrophes and only the doctor is too blind to see it coming. The incredible speed at which the monster progresses from grunts and moans to reading and critiquing classic literature, including, I kid you not, Plutarch's Lives, would be funny if it wasn't so darn long-winded and annoying. I realize this is not a modern blockbuster like The Da Vinci Code (which, come to think of it, was long-winded and annoying too, but with a lot more action and specific detail to keep you entertained in the mean-time) but Bram Stoker's Dracula was a lot better read.
I simply loved it. Wendy finally realizes what makes her so special and you can see that she is so mature about it. The Vittra are more in the picture and I love one of them, you'll see who I'm talking if you read it. Tove is a big part and Willa still the same girl we all love, maybe a little better. Matt is back as you can see in the end of Book 1, so he stays in the story. As for Finn, he is really hot when he gets jealous!
THIS IS SO FUNNY! It's basically Jon talking to himself and he seems insane and it is HILARIOUS!

Some points: - Fun and brisk read with a slow build-up and an explosion of gore and uh, other bodily secretions at the end. - Ryu Murakami seems utterly convinced of the moral degeneracy of modern Japanese society. Because he knows the books he wrote probably contributed to this. - Kind of misogynistic (maybe a Japanese kind of misogyny?) but with some interesting social commentary. - (view spoiler) - The ending was too abrupt for my liking. - (view spoiler) - I'd love to read more of the author's works but it appears that people keep stealing his books from my university library, those bastards.

Scary and depressing. Not as much depth as one would expect considering the topic. A sordid cautionary tale.
Really 2.5 stars. The idea of this story was good, but it just seemed a little disjointed to me. I really liked the Florida history and those parts. But I think as a reader and a current Floridian I could tell that this wasn't written by a Florida author. There was just something inauthentic about the setting and the characters. But that's okay. It was an adventure, the kids were really interesting, and it has a lot of pieces to the story that fit well together.

Good writing, cool atmosphere, too much sex (I'm definitely not a prude but it was a bit gratuitous). In the middle it seemed like it was going nowhere but the way he linked all the characters together at the end was fabulous.
