Though the story got a bit slow towards the middle, as describing 100 years of solitude is wont to do, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is an amazing writer who puts words together in a way that just...tastes good. Beautifully written, and despite the lull in the middle when I got to the end it was all worth it and was meant to be how it was. (Good luck keeping up with the family tree!)

Not bad, but I found it to be slow reading. The ending is just too good to be credible.

Cassandra Clare's City of Glass is far and away the best conclusion to a trilogy I have ever read. All characters stay true to the way they have been developed throughout the series, and all plots from the earlier books are finished off. Clues about the ending from the first two books carry through to the final books, and I was pleased that I actually managed to predict something correctly, something which does NOT occur very often! The book tied up very nicely, in "a neat little package" as Homer Simpson would say. City of Glass was an amazing book, and cements Cassandra Clare's place as one of my favourite authors, maybe even my number one favourite, EVER! Can't wait for her new series in 2010, although I might be filled with longing for my favourite characters from mortal instruments every time she mentions an institute, or a vampire, or Magnus Bane.
Somewhat of a parable for the transgender community, wrapped up in the trappings of a dragon warrior story. Which is much more inventive and compelling than most "paranormal" YA, and even if you don't automatically think "dragons! cool!" like some of us (dorks), there is a chance you'll find the energy concept different enough to maintain interest.

Reviewed by Breanna F. for TeensReadToo.com 15-year-old Mackenzie Hill is still recovering from the loss of her mother when her father announces that they're moving to Israel because he was offered a position at a university there. Being torn away from the only home she has ever known in Toronto, Canada, is not Mackenzie's idea of a good time. Her father promises that if after three months she still doesn't like it there, she can move back to Canada, and she plans to do just that. But soon Mackenzie meets an American girl named Marla who has lived in Israel for a few years. They discover that they have something in common, and she helps to show Mackenzie around. In no time at all, the two become best friends. Also, Mackenzie discovers an amazingly cute boy named Nasir who works at a little shop near her apartment. Soon (even though Nasir's parents would forbid it if they knew) Mackenzie and Nasir start dating, little to the knowledge of Mackenzie's father and Nasir's parents. Soon the three-month period is up - and Mackenzie doesn't mention going back home. Things are going so well and Mackenzie is actually happy with her life. But one day something happens that will quickly change everything.. First off, I have to say that this book was pretty intense. There was indeed a point where I cried. The whole book moved at a pretty fast speed, and near the end it was action-packed, which was a surprise (but it was a good surprise). Not one part of MACKENZIE, LOST AND FOUND was dull to me. After the first few chapters of just Mackenzie talking it switches, and most every other chapter after that is a chapter told from Nasir's point of view. So the story is told from two different points of view, which I always like. Ms. Kerbel is a strong writer and I definitely look forward to reading something else by her. I'd recommend this book to anyone who's interested in what's going on in the Middle East, and to readers who don't mind a heart-wrenching story.
Loved it!
I thought it was time for a bit of quality. Especially after that last one .... 4/6/2009 (Chapter 14) - Oh, it is wonderful! I love the conversation between Miss Trottwood and Mr. Murdstone. "Oh, stuff and nonsense, don't talk to me." It's simply wonderful. 4/11/2009 - I discovered a new favorite. This is a simply wonderful book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wrote down several quotes for the book that require further contemplation. 1. "My aunt was perfectly indifferent to public opinion." 2. "It was the first mistaken impulse of an undisciplined mind." 3. "Nothing provides for more unhappiness than when two people are unequal in mind and purpose." 4. "Therefore,I kept my own counsel." I think that humor may be the most difficult emotion to convey in the written word. Dickens delivers with excellence. There are parts of this book that are so funny. The image of his aunt chasing the donkeys off her land is hysterical. The world is full of characters such as Uriah Heap, Little Em'ly and Mr.Micawber, neither all good, nor all bad. Some of them overcome their inherent weakness and others eventually succumb to it. The life lessons explored are as relevant today as when written in 1850. Now hurry up and read it so we can talk about it!
