Unbearably "cute". Strobach attempts to explain everything as if it were a card game, which muddies his exposition, while patronizing his readers. If you don't understand how to use logic, pretending that true and false may just as well be substituted with black and white won't help. Or if it does help a few, it will baffle a few thousand. All that space he used up trying to be so fun and clever could have been filled with more examples and exercises.

I was a little apprehensive before I started reading it. I didn't judge by the cover, as the cover art was pretty impressive, but it didn't seem like a book that would evoke my interest during the summer holidays. The book is a fictional account of India's fight for independance, which brings together the unconciously interlinked lives of Indian citizens. It takes a while for the story to pink up, put keeps you busy till then with the historical facts and characteristics of life during this time period. Written from the point of view of an Indian, it accurately brings out the culture of India. The individual stories of each character in the book, captures the lifestyle of different members of society. An engrossing story that accurately dipicts the Freedom fight and division of India; manages not to bore the reader, a feat for a historical book. Epic ending that forces reality back, reminding you that reality isn't always a happy ending.

I've read all of the Potter books. In the first three, Harry was great then, he became a rude, hormonal teenager. But, everyone should read at least one of them (the first is the best).
I've said it before: I love Ian McEwan. While I preferred Atonement, this was nonetheless quite good and, as is often the case with McEwan's writing, was so very, very British. Though, it didn't have the same polish and perfection that I found in Atonement.

I'll let you know when I finish it. I've been reading it since May, though, so I don't know when that'll be.
ithink this book could have been much better , so irealy didnt like it .
I finally finished this book. I did not like it at all. I haven't read a book that I was as disinterested in, in a long time. I had to FORCE myself to finish it.

Is it weird that my husband and I are both currently reading a book by this guy?? Neil Gaiman sure sucked me in on this one. I was quite attached to Bod and his graveyard family. I really liked his take on warewolves, vampires and ghosts. I do wish he had had the opportunity to expand the storyline more on the three bad "guys" that captured him at one point. At that point, I lost a little bit of interest in the story but once Miss Lupescu came to his rescue I was intrigued again. That part of the story didn't tie in as well for me. But I loved Silas and his vampire ways. It was refreshing to get another perspective on vampires after all our readings of Twilight and Blue Bloods. And Silas reminded me of Siruis and that was a good memory too....
This book was fantastic, even with the sections devoted to mushrooms (gross!). I tried reading it a few years ago and couldn't get into it, I think it was the corn sex, but I couldn't put it down this time around. Maybe I'm a more responsible adult this time around. There's a little bit of science, economics, nature, politics, and lots of food. Michael Pollan does a really good job of explaining what you should eat, what you do eat, where it comes from, and why what you choose to eat matters. All without sounding preachy. It's not so much that he condemns anyone for their food choices, but he makes you a knowledgeable consumer, and reminds you how good your food can be: good in taste, for the earth, and for the animals. I remember the first time I went to Jewel to buy my $4.29/lb chicken breast after reading about the super-organic farm, I still bought it, but was slightly depressed that this wasn't the best chicken I could buy. On a side note, when I read the intro to this book years ago, I was inspired to do something similar, except with knitting. The author's final meal is something he kills, forages for, grows, and makes himself. Similarly, it's a goal of mine to knit from sheep to sweater, including shearing, cleaning, spinning, dyeing and knitting. Corn is bad!
