Borrowed from public library. Adult fiction. Slow-starting, too much sex and language, homosexuality. her writing doesn't tighten until after page 50. So I finished it, of course. The theme is excellent and the ending is good. The point of view is pretty good. About a 36 year old model who is struggling with her Jewish heritage, mother and daughter relationship (husband optional). Good resolution but tough getting there.

I started reading this book shortly before the shooting at Virginia Tech, and had to put it down for a while. The novel covers many different perspectives of parents, children, and those involved in the case. It was easy to empathize with all of the characters despite their actions. Even when people think they are doing a good job, things can go terribly wrong in a heartbeat.
Great book! This is another great addition to Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series. Willig just keeps getting better and better. If you're looking for mystery, intrigue, history and romance rolled into one, then look no further than this author. Her books have it all. This book features the spy, the Silver Orchid, and is set in 1804 Paris. The Silver Orchid, Laura Grey, has the mission to get information to the Pink Carnation who has infiltrated Napoleon's court. The events that follow keep one turning the pages and anxious to read more.

I adored this book. Historical with just enough of the trashy "Hmm, could it really have been that way?" that I reserve for historical fiction.

May's story is familiar to me. I know how poor families in Scotland can be and I know how alcoholism is a big problem. I've known people who've had to deal with the same issues. I've also known people who have been converted to God and the difference it can make in their lives. What's different about this story is that May really got involved to bring a difference to other people's lives. She's very inspirational.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this one. I really enjoyed it, for the most part. The characters were good, the story was unique, and I found it rather difficult to put down. I think the main problem was that we already knew what happened. We're told at the start that her sister died, that Alice turns out to be cruel, that she has a daughter. So the rest of the book is just filling in the finer details. It was well written though and quite compelling. It's different, thought provoking, and really makes you question what you'd do if you were in Katherine's shoes.
3 French Tutors, their American students and amore, Paris-style. Well crafted, enjoyable to read and uplifting.
Wow! This is one blunt, graphic, tell-it-like-it-is memoir. Monica is one smart, confident woman. She was born in Australia in 1978 to an abusive, pill-popping, alcohol addicted mother and absentee father. She grew up feeling unloved and unwanted. She has found success in a tough business and has achieved so much at a young age. She’s brutally honest with everything she talks about, including her continued drug use. She seems to have a really positive attitude and one helluva sense of humor. This book was a true A-read. If, like me, complete honesty and openness is what you want in a memoir, this is a book you should read. I truly wish Monica the best and hope she continues to have a positive attitude.
Definitely a children's book - maybe around 10 years or so? but still can be enjoyed by adults! I love that this is a mystery novel yet written for children. I love solving a good puzzle and so do my kids and this is a great one to figure out. My son read this for a book report and then the rest of the family had to read it too and we all discussed it - not very often you can find books that all the members of the family can read quickly and appreciate. I wish I had read more by this author as a child - but I guess now at least I have the excuse to read them all with my kids.
