I need to read this one again! It's been awhile.
I think this book is awesome. This is one of my favorite books I would rate it five out five because it is a very easy to understand the story. I also loved it because of the way the author lined up the events of the story. This is a great book for me since it is for young adults and it won the Newberry Award. I also liked this book because it is written by Louis Sachar which for me writes very good books such as “There’s a boy in the girls Bathroom.” From this book they made out a movie which I have already seen. The movie obviously does not include as many detail as in the book. By having more detail in the book I understood the book way more than the movie. I would recommend you to read the book first and then watch the movie. You will get a pretty good idea of what the story is about. The story is about a kid that lives with his family which has always had bad luck. Stanley Yelnats Which is the main character gets blamed of stealing a pair of shoes. Instead of Jail he gets taken to a camp called Camp Green Lake in the desert to build up character digging five by five holes to find something. That big desert was a lake some years in the past and they are looking for a treasure. I’ll let you find out the rest. Read it!!

My personal highlights have been a) an enchanting chapter about motherly love and b), a swift and sharp-tongued essay about today's relation between religion and the society respectively the individual. Fromm uses a plain and suggestive language and we get to know many wise insights into the nature of man. In addition, we learn to question ourselves/our concept of love and we are confronted with admirable standards to improve our personality. A very edifying read, with minor weaknesses due to the book's age like Fromm's homophobia or his controversial ideas about gender roles. A reassuring experience in this postmodern world; hopefully this book is set to continue finding its readers...

This was mentioned somewhere and I had to request it interlibrary loan to read it, since it is out of print. The stories were original. My favorite was The Invitation, about a woman living in a foreign country for 30 years and still living as an outsider.
Well written biography of a great and very human saint. A Great introduction. It does have a "creepy" ending which aught to be intriquing enough to make a person want read it.
